13 Colonies. BY: Braxton, Nathan, and Graeme . New England. The New England Colonies had thin gravelly soil making it hard to plant crops. They had other valuable resources though like timber to make houses and boats. Coastal waters were filled with fish and other marine life.

  2. New England The New England Colonies had thin gravelly soil making it hard to plant crops. They had other valuable resources though like timber to make houses and boats. Coastal waters were filled with fish and other marine life.

  3. New England Colonies cont. Timber was valuable to colonies such as England because, most of there trees have been cut down. They also made barrels out of the timber. The barrels held lots of things from wine to fish. The economy was based on products From the forest and the sea.

  4. Middle Colonies Middle Colonies have a warmer climate than the New England Colonies. The better soil in the area helps to grow crops like wheat. They were named “The Bread Basket.” They had BIG RIVERS that helped people transport goods and travel.

  5. Middle Colonies cont. Mills were built from the timber they collected, and it helped make the flower. The mills were powered by wind, and water. The Middle Colonies economy was based on valuable minerals such as iron.

  6. Southern Colonies The southern colonies had the warmest climate and the longest growing seasons. They had great soil to plant crops such as tobacco and rice. Lots of rivers connected to other farms.

  7. Southern Colonies cont. The southern colonies had plenty of rain. The farms ranged in size from small family farms to large plantations. Plantations are powered by slaves. Cash crops included tobacco, rice, indigo a plant to make blue dye. The southern colonies economy was based on farming.
