  1. Stay Ready: So You Don’t Have to Get Ready Presented By: Chandler McCabe

  2. My Background/ Experiences • Played at Providence College 2008-2012 • Had same coaching staff all four years • Henderson State GA 2012-2014 • 2012-13Head coach let go 2 days before first game • 2013-14 Interim let go, new coach comes in • Bethune Cookman University Assistant coach 2014- present • 2017-18 “Acting” head coach for 4 games • 2018-19 SIX knee surgeries (4 season ending and 3 ACLs) • Go on to win MEAC Tourney and go dancing

  3. Expect the Unexpected • Does not matter your “title”, “position”, or “role” • BE READY AT ALL TIMES to take on a bigger role. • Does not depend on your years of experience • Things happen regardless of how much experience you have coaching • Previous experience can absolutely help; however.

  4. Demand Greatness • Don’t let your situation allow a distraction • You still have a job to do • Stay focused on preseason goals or make new ones • Always maintain high energy and passion (even if the situation is a personal one) • Never let your players feel affected by whatever happened • Why do you coach? • They are my WHY and my HOW • Keep players in the loop (when need be)

  5. The Injury Bug: How can you be ready? • You Can’t • RECRUITING • Recruit versatile players • Always have 3 options per position! (Can have 1 player cover 2-4 spots if need be) • Reassess! • What is you personnel now? What are their strong points? • TRY EVERYTHING! (Suggest as assistants)

  6. Be YOU!!! • Be the absolute best you, you can be in any role or situation. • Know you are in a position for a reason. • Take ownership, MOVE FORWARD • Always keep the kids first- regardless of circumstance. • FIGURE IT TF OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t make an excuse, figure it out.
