  1. Welcome...

  2. Soil Taxonomy Ontology Developed At Iasri, New Delhi-110012 Division of Computer Application I.A.R.I., New Delhi-110012

  3. This is a web based software • This is also a Ontology based software • This is a steps towards Semantic web “The Semantic Web is not a separate Web but an extension of the current one, in which information is given well-defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation.” Tim Berners-Lee • Ontology is “An explicit and formal specification of a shared conceptualization”.

  4. Soil Taxonomy Ontology • Agriculture • Information • Technology • Ontology • USDA Soil Taxonomy The Web technologies allow the knowledge engineers and domain experts to build the expert systems having dynamic knowledgebase capabilities. The domain experts could update the knowledge and the users access the recent knowledgebase through a Web interface Ontology is the recent knowledge representation technique that allows the domain experts to code their knowledge in a specific domain.

  5. Objectives • To perform requirement analysis for building and querying soil ontology • To develop a query interface for querying the ontology this can interact with soil series of the soil taxonomy • To develop and populate the soil ontology and extend the existing soil ontology

  6. Architecture of Soil Taxonomy Ontology.. JSP(Web Container) Internet JENA OWL Database

  7. Architecture of Soil Taxonomy Ontology.. • Database Layer (DBL) • Server Side Application Layer (SSAL) • Client Side Interface Layer (CSIL)

  8. Architecture of Soil Taxonomy Ontology • Semantic Web Framework Layer • OWL Ontology Layer

  11. State wise Series Description… • State wise suitability of land use and vegetation ..

  12. Any of the soil Taxonomic terms.. Jiyadhol

  13. Property based Search Facility.. • Prediction about newly found soil..

  14. Update and Delete facility.. • Adding newly found soil facilty..

  15. Sign –up Facility • User and Domain Expert Management Facility..

  16. Salient Feature of Soil Taxonomy Ontology.. There are 12 Orders, 63 Suborders approximately 238 Great Groups, approximately 1,243 Subgroups... • There are thousands of soil family… • There are thousands of soil series… Secured access to the information… • Inference capability… • Searching capability…

  17. Utility

  18. This Software (Soil Taxonomy Ontology) is under Testing period in the division of Computer Application,IASRI, New Delhi-110012 • It will soon be available after few days in the WEB

  19. “A Computer would deserve to be called intelligent if it could deceive a human into believing that it was human ” Alan Turing

  20. Future Scope… • It can be extended up to Soil Phase Level Enhance the soil ontology worldwide

  21. Thank You…
