  1. 5K's Kids Design Challenge

  2. Grain Posters 5K was put into groups and given a grain to study. We had to work together to find what is a grain, what it looks like, what is the structure, why is it important, how and where does it grow in Australia, what it needs to grow, how is it used, what are some of the food that has our grain in it and how has grain production changed over time. We had fun decorating our posters and sticking information on it.

  3. On the 28th of August 2009 5K had there taste testing day. Everybody brought in a sample of a grain based food to share with the class. Everybody put there food in front of them as our teacher went around the room asking what they brought in and what the grains were in their ingredients as they had to make their grain based food themselves. After the teacher finished talking to us about what we brought in he gave us permission to serve our friend's and other class mates our grains based goodies. When we got up everyone started taking bits of food from other students and brought it back to there desks to have a taste. The taste testing went on for 45 minutes and 5K loved every second of it. The taste testing was fantastic and 5K wishes to have another one. 5K`s Taste Testing

  4. One of the first things we had to do to start the kids design challenge was to find the advertisement of our choice. At first we all were trying to convince our teacher that we should do a radio ad as we had heard quite a few other radio ad’s done by other schools and were intrigued. But as time went on someone came up with the idea of a television ad and soon our interests had turned into the thought of being on someone's TV screen. We later started coming up with other ideas such as mascots, billboards and online advertisements. We went around the class discussing why we should do that advertisement but behind every advertisement there was always a good idea to keep and use it. So we ended up with a vote…………. 5. Expert groups The whole class had the tough decision of how we wanted to advertise. We all decided that we wanted a Radio add, TV add, mascots and billboards Later on we were put into groups with a manger and two people doing a creative brief. In the Radio advertisement team they got to record their adds. For the TV advertisement team they made a backdrop. The Mascot advertisement team made some big copies of their mascots And for the billboard advertisement team they made a big copy of their ideas.

  6. First we all talked as a group about who we were trying to target or who was are targeting audience. We all had to think of our own slogan and chose which one was the better chose for each ad. Next we had to choose what we were targeting in our scripts [ what is a serve, what types of grains there are]. From then on we wrote our scripts and tried to learn them of by heart. By then we had at least 3 ads and had to come up with one more which we all had a part in it. We had a lot of team meetings trying to come up our fourth ad and had a lot of disagreements about it too. We finally decided on our fourth ad target which was to choose not to eat sugary sweets but to eat grains. Radio Advertising team

  7. We learnt our lines and started to record some of our ads. Recording was fun , but had to be redone a couple of times as we were talking fast or to soft. When we were finally done the hard part was listening to our ads in front of everyone as we did not sound the same because our voices were very different [ high or deep ] But we all had fun and learnt a lot. 8. Our TV advertisment group • First our team leader (Christine) put us with partners. • We then came up with lots of great ideas for an add, but one stood out from all the rest. • We all agreed that it was great and started making a backdrop. We used two pieces of paper and paint. • After typing up scripts, and days of practise we finally got to film. • We filmed a few times and watched them all. It then came the time to chose one. • From there we showed the class on our smart board and they all thought it was great.

  9. TV Group members. • Christine: a very good group leader, also a very good artist. • Maddy: One of the 2 people that did our creative brief. We are lucky to have her in the group. • Kristi-Lyn: The second person that did the creative brief and a very loyal member • Cameron: He was very helpful and liked doing the backdrop a lot. • Alanna: She enjoyed doing the backdrop and helping Christine make it easier to do the play. • Lavinia: She is a great member and a very good painter. • Jordan: He was very enthusiastic about the play and loved it.

  10. Billboard Advertisment Team • First we got into our group of eight and we came up of ideas and slogans for our billboard. • We then decided our billboard design and slogan and drew it on and A3 piece of paper. • We then sketched it out on our billboard. • And then we finally started to paint.

  12. Mascot Team The mascot team started off with designing our mascots. The people who are part of our group are, Nicola, Jamie, Victoria , Mikaela , Tara, Dean , Harry and Dion. We enlarged our mascots and traced them on our smart board and then painted them. Our main mascot is Renee Rice. We would use these mascots to attract children aged 8-9 to eat 4+ serves of grains per day.

  13. Our final result was 9 healthy hearted creative mascots: • Renee- Rice • Ollie-oat • Crusty- Corn • Buddy- Barley • Santa- Sorghum • Wendy- Wheat • Rhianna-Rye • We enjoyed designing our mascots and enjoyed working as a team.

  14. 5K has enjoyed doing the Kid’s Design Challenge and has learned a lot about grains. Hope you enjoyed our presentation. Mascots Billboard T.V Radio
