  1. e-Learning Courseware Prototype for Information Literacy Competency Development of Undergraduate Students by Sakda Chanprasert, Kultida Tuamsuk Denpong Soodphakdee

  2. 1. Research Problem • IL is an important skill of KBE. • One major mission of HE for develop student to IL person. • Literatures Research (Laohajaratsang, 2008; Pongpech, 2005; Tuamsuk, 2010) • IL in HE (foreign & Thailand), teach in class more than online, repeatable contents online • Do not teach all of set of IL • Teach IL for knowledge more than teach for skill • Increase students while a number of instructor in the same • HE must be improve IL of student to Graduate quality for apply to work, study and lifelong learning • Development of IL instruction by e-Learning should be good answer and in accord with to develop technology skill

  3. 1. Research Problem • So e-Learning courseware prototype for information literacy competency to development of undergraduate students with system methodology, including with academic matter of information literacy standard, instructional theory for learning development and e-Learning principle, to be important issue, lead to benefit for higher education and bring to common scholastic.

  4. 2. Research Objective • Develop courseware prototype for instruction by e-Learning for guide line to develop information literacy competency of undergraduate students.

  5. 3. Concept Framework Information Literacy Standard for Higher Education (SCONUL, 1999; ACRL, 2000; ANZIL&CAUL, 2004) Constructivist Theory for Instructional Design by(Kammanee, 2006; Chaichalaon, 2003) ADDIE Model for System Development Life Cycle(Modenda, 2003 ) LAMS for Instruction Design and Instructional Development(Dalziel, 2007; Ghigllon & Page, 2010)

  6. 3. Concept Framework Information Literacy Standard for Higher Education (SCONUL, 1999; ACRL, 2000; ANZIL&CAUL, 2004) Constructivist Theory for Instructional Design (Kammanee, 2006; Chaichalaon, 2003) ADDIE Model for System Development Life Cycle(Modenda, 2003 ) LAMS for Instruction Design and Instructional Development(Dalziel, 2007; Ghigllon & Page, 2010)

  7. 3. Concept Framework Information Literacy Standard for Higher Education (SCONUL, 1999; ACRL, 2000; ANZIL&CAUL, 2004) Constructivist Theory for Instructional Design by(Kammanee, 2006; Chaichalaon, 2003) ADDIE Model for System Development Life Cycle(Modenda, 2003 ) LAMS for Instruction Design and Instructional Development(Dalziel, 2007; Ghigllon & Page, 2010)

  8. 3. Concept Framework Information Literacy Standard for Higher Education (SCONUL, 1999; ACRL, 2000; ANZIL&CAUL, 2004) Constructivist Theory for Instructional Design by (Kammanee, 2006; Chaichalaon, 2003) ADDIE Model for System Development Life Cycle(Modenda, 2003 ) LAMS for Instruction Design and Instructional Development(Dalziel, 2007; Ghigllon & Page, 2010)

  9. 4. Research Methodology Research & Development approach which 5 steps

  10. 5. Conclusion • 5.1 Result of development of e-Learning courseware • 5.2 Result of Instructional Design • 5.3 Result of development an e-Learning courseware prototype

  11. 5. Conclusion • 5.1 Result of development of e-Learning courseware • 1) Development of contents and IL competency consist of 2 parts • 1.1) IL competency compose of 6 competencies, each competency compose of knowledge and skills. • 1.2) Topic of contents and main point of contents compose of 6 units • 2) Courseware Plan Development. • Each of courseware plan compose with 4 parts (1. learning activities, 2. teacher activities, 3. student activities, 4. measurement and evaluate) • 3) Appropriate Evaluation of Course Plan • 3.1) Contents and Information Literacy Competency was received IOC (Index of Consistency) >0.8 from information literacy experts with in each of contents items and competency issues. • 3.2) Courseware plan for information literacy instruction at undergraduate level in each unit was verified from information literacy experts evaluate with IOC > 0.8

  12. 5. Conclusion • 5.2 Result of Instructional Design Example of instructional design of learning unit 3

  13. 5. Conclusion • 5.3 Result of development an e-Learning courseware prototype in 3 steps : • 1) Test System and Try out Learning Online : • Result of test system with unit 1 and 2 was LAMS can operate on Windows NT and result of surveyed opinion is students can learning online. • 2) Evaluation of Courseware Prototype. • Evaluated unit 3 and 4 by 3 types; 1) Portfolio Analysis, 2) Surveys and evaluation of courseware and 3) User’s experiences • 1) Portfolio Analysis found students to learn 25 persons (83.33%) • 2) Surveys and evaluation of courseware; Student and e-Learning Expert had commented to courseware was a very good and good appropriate for Course contents, Learning Activities, Multimedia Elements, Measurement and Evaluation of Learning Outcomes • 3) User’s experiences: students commented that the courseware was easy to use. • 3) Develop Courseware • Develop all of courseware to 6 unit

  14. 6. Discussion • 1) e-Learning courseware • Priority to information literacy standard of higher education to be universality. • Analyze and synthesis IL standard, which well known and accept in HE. • Teaching Plan from analyze and synthesis of desirable featured graduate of KKU. and contents of subject 000130 Information Literacy. • So, IL expert evaluate appropriate (IOC) of courseware plan at >0.8 in each items and evaluate appropriate (IOC) at 1.00 in 4 coursewares (unit 2, 3, 4 and 6).

  15. 6. Discussion • 2) Instructional design • Found to use 4 components of constructivist theory in e-Learning Courseware. (problem base, information resource, scaffolding, collaborative learning) • Evaluate result from student and IL expert: each activities learning are good. • This is indicator to confirm “Constructivist Theory in e-Learning Courseware are appropriate”. • 3) Development an e-Learning Courseware • By LAMS to develop components of e-Learning activities. • Evaluate result from student and e-Learning expert: LAMS system are good and very good for course management.

  16. 7. Recommendations and Perspectives for Possible Future Works • 1. Higher education can apply by (1) Training staff or student for develop IL through e-Learning system. (2) Intervention in others subject for develop IL of student by defines student to self-learning in e-Learning system. (3) Use as both comprehensive replacement learning and supplementary learning for decrease instructional problem in case a great number of students.

  17. 7. Recommendations and Perspectives for Possible Future Works Higher education should consider factor of 1) Policy of institute to give precedence to develop IL is one point of desirable featured graduate. • IT infrastructure has computer laboratory for 24x7 service, LAMS software, Staff for develop instructional media support. 3) Instructor should know in 3 issues; - knowledge of develop contents and courseware plan for e-Learning, - knowledge of develop courseware for LAMS and - knowledge of tracing and evaluation in LAMS system. 4) Learner should receive training for guide to learn by e-Learning. 5) Information resources or Library should has all of information sources follow by contents of information literacy.

  18. 7. Recommendations and Perspectives for Possible Future Works 2. Recommendation for Future Works: This study stress to develop courseware for e-Learning follow of SDLC, so give priority to test and evaluation of courseware more than evaluation of learning outcomes or competency learner. Even through in process of develop has priority to aim at desirable competency, define content according to standard and desirable result, include with activities learning. But in process of study do not evaluate of learning outcome. So for next complete study should study and use as comprehensive replacement media for all course and compare test between e-Learning and class, which has clear result study.
