Caustive agent Listeria monocytogenes bacteria 1/ it is a gram positive 2/extremely antibiotic resistant coccoid to bacillus shaped bacteria found in environment 3/ live in soil ,in poorly made silage & spoiled forages & DI tract & mammary GI4/found in feces of infected birds , wild mammals fish ,insects& fetal feces ( meconium)5/shedded in nasal discharge, uterine discharge, aborted fetus Pm lecture

  4. N.B Listeriosis is most prevalent during spring & winter months , w` suggests prevalance of l. monocytogenes thus management practice can be applied to minimize the risk of infection Pm lecture

  5. Suspected animal *Common in domestic animal ( domestic mammals & poultry) espacially adult ruminant w` are feed contaminated silage than human beings*Newly born , elder ages & pregnant. Pm lecture

R.O.I • 1)through ingestion of contaminated feed or water or by fecal shedding of bacteria (( oral _fecal route ))2) through inhalation **Infected animal could die if improperly treated **Zoonosis cosumption of contaminated unpasteurised milk by human can lead to meningitis & meningoencephalitisif pregnant , abortion N.B Pm lecture
