  9. 2nd Vice District Governor Qualifications • Be an active member in good standing • Be endorsed by the club or a majority of the clubs in the single or sub-district • Served as club president and a member of the club board of directors for two years and as zone or region chairperson or cabinet secretary or treasurer (none being held concurrently) • Must hold said office for a full term or major portion thereof

  16. District Governor Teamwork The team members each have a 1 year term so the governor and vice governors are really members of a relay team. Each year one governor provides leadership and the others on the team assist in achieving the current year’s goals. Each July 1, the baton passes to the next member of the team. As Lion leaders, we are on the same team.

  17. District Governor Teamwork Example: Divide the duty of club visits • 1st VDG visits clubs who are sponsoring a new club or requesting a program about leadership development • 2nd VDG visits clubs with retention problems • District Governor visits remaining clubs

  18. District Governor Teamwork The district governor who delegates some tasks to other team members will have more time to manage the district, monitor achievement of goals, and provide leadership and motivation to Lions of the district.

  21. Responsibilities of Each Team Member

  22. District Governor • Represent the association in his/her district • Chief administrative officer of the district and supervises the first and second vice district governors, region and zone chairpersons, the cabinet secretary-treasurer, and other cabinet members

  23. District Governor • Administer and promote membership growth and new club development • Administer and promote leadership development at the club and district levels

  24. District Governor • Promote harmony among the chartered Lions clubs • Promote the Lions Clubs International Foundation and all service activities of the association

District Governor • Preside, when present, over cabinet, convention and other district meetings. • Exercise such supervision and authority over cabinet officers and district committee appointees as is provided in this district constitution • Report to LCI all known violations of the use of the association's name and emblem

District Governor • Ensure that each club in the district is visited by the district governor or another district officer once each year to facilitate successful administration of the club, and submit a report of visitation to international headquarters for each visit • Submit a current itemized statement of total district receipts and expenditures to his/her district convention or annual meeting

District Governor • Deliver, forthwith, at the termination of his/her term of office, all district accounts and records to his/her successor in office • Perform such other functions and acts as shall be required of him/her by the International Board of Directors through the District Governor’s Manual and other directives

Vice District Governor Shared Duties • Further the purposes of this association • Perform such administrative duties assigned by the district governor • Perform such other functions and acts required by the International Board of Directors • Participate in cabinet meetings and conduct meetings in the absence of the DG

  29. 1st Vice District Governor • Assist the governor in reviewing clubs in the district • Conduct club visits in place of the district governor • Work with District Membership and Extension Committees • Work with District Leadership Development Committee to develop and implement a leadership development plan • Work with the District Convention Committee and assist in promoting other district events 1st

  30. 1st Vice District Governor • At the request of the district governor, supervise other district committees • Participate in the planning of the next year including the district budget • Familiarize himself/herself with the duties of the district governor so that in the event of a vacancy in the office of district governor, he/she would be ready to assume the duties of said office 1st

  31. 2nd Vice District Governor • Familiarize himself/herself with the health and status of the clubs in the district • Conduct club visits in place of the district governor • Work with the District Retention Committee, and assist the committee to prevent the loss of clubs, and members • Assist the district governor and the first vice governor in planning and conducting the annual district convention. 2ND

  32. 2nd Vice District Governor • Work with the District LCIF Coordinator and assist to achieve the goals of the year • Work with the District Information Technology Committee and assist the committee to promote the LCI web site and internet to clubs/members • Familiarize himself/herself with the duties of the district governor so that in the event of a vacancy in the office of district governor, he/she would be ready to assume the duties of said office 2ND

  35. Further study – LCIF • As part of the LCIF Development Plan, LCIF District Coordinators are appointed and trained by Multiple District LCIF Coordinators • The LCIF Coordinator works closely with the district governor and other district leaders

Further study – Retention • The District Retention Committee is a key resource in helping clubs maintain a healthy and active club environment • The committee can provide training for club officers about retention program resources • And communicate the message: Member retention is everyone’s responsibility
