  2. Discovery learning is an active process of inquiry-based instruction that encourages learners to build on prior knowledge through experience and to search for new information and relationships based on their interests.

History • Discovery Learning is a natural learning process • Psychologist and cognitive learning theorist Jerome Bruner (1967) first outlined the principles of discovery learning • Professional teachers and Psychologist have found that Discovery Learning is a vital part of teaching special needs kids

  7. Problem-based learning • Learning is driven by challenging, open-ended problems. • Students work in small collaborative groups. • Teachers take on the role as "facilitators" of learning.

Pros Cons • encourages active engagement • promotes motivation • promotes autonomy, responsibility, independence • the development of creativity and problem solving skills. • a tailored learning experience • creation of cognitive overload • potential misconceptions • teachers may fail to detect problems and misconceptions
