  1. Popular Music of the ‘90s By: Angel Remigio

  2. Late ‘80s/Early ‘90s 2 Live Crew was a hip hop group from Miami, Florida. They caused considerable controversy with the sexual themes in their work, particularly on their 1989 album As Nasty As They Wanna Be. Run–D.M.C. was an American hip hop group from Hollis, Queens, New York, founded in 1981 by Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels, and Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell. The group is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential acts in the history of hip hop culture. Run–D.M.C. was one of the most well-known hip hop acts in the 1980s who, along with LL Cool J, The Beastie Boys, and Public Enemy signified the advent of the new school of hip hop music. NWA played a major role in hip hop/rap/gangsta-rap. Without Easy-E and Ruthless Labels, today’s music wouldn’t be what it is today. In the late 80s, a group in Compton, California who rapped about life in the hood, being discriminated by the police and the American Government, and murder.

  3. After being found by Dr Dre in 1992, he was one of the most successful artist to ever sell albums, selling near a million the first week. Early ‘90s After leaving NWA, Ice Cube continued rapping on his own, and latter acting. Making a bunch of albums in the ’90s, he decided to go easy on the rapping in the ‘00 and start producing movies like Are We There Yet? Friday, and more. Easy-E aka “the godfather of gangster rap” was the owner of both NWA and Ruthless labels before getting diagnosed with AIDS. Although he was the co-founder of NWA, without him hip hop wouldn’t be would it is today. In 1992 Dr Dre chased his solo career, signing with Death Row. He then later left Death Row to make his own label (Aftermath Entertainment). Today a lot of major artist are signed with him; such as Eminem, Snoop Dogg, 50cent, the Game, Kendrick Lamar, and others As a kid, inspired by funk and soul artist, Dj Quik’s sounds reflect his childhood heros. He made his own mix-tapes, and quick. He was offered a 1 million signing bonus if he were to sign with Easy-E but rejected it and decided to sign with Profile Records in 1990. To me, Easy and Quik sound very similar.
