  2. Skimming You just need to get an idea of what it is about so DON’T READ EVERY WORD. ONLY READ: • Title and sub-headings • First & last sentences of each paragraph • The very last sentence of the whole text • Look at diagrams and pictures

  3. How to TAKE GOOD NOTES

  4. Note taking • Do not copy text – (especially from the web) • Only write key points • Shorten words • Txt mssges wrk • Use symbols & numbers    

  5. Note taking: Use Bullet Points • Use bullets points to capture key facts • You can include sub-bullet points for further detail • Or more bullets for further detail • (another point) • Use another main bullet point for your next key point

  6. Note taking: Mind Mapping

Put main idea in the centre and leave lots of space • Turn your page on the side and do a mind map in "landscape" style. • With the main topic in the middle this gives lots of space for other notes to radiate out. • After the first drawing of the mind map you may want to highlight things, add information or add questions.

Step by step guide • Start in the centre with picture of the topic, use at least 3 colours. • Use pictures, & symbols • Write alone the lines • Write key words in CAPITAL letters • Lines from the middle picture are thicker, Lines near the outside are thinner. • Use lots of colour – your own code • Develop your own personal style of Mind Mapping.
