  1. FMS PARENTS’ NIGHT January 24th, 2011 Rescheduled due to weather from 1/17/11 We may not be big, we may not be small, but we are in the middle and that is the best of all! Theme voted on by the 2010-2011 7th and 8th grade class.

ITBS Testing • February 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 10th • Testing from 8:30-10:00 a.m. • Food (fruit and bar) available to students on testing day. • NAEP Testing for 8th graders- February 9th. • National Assessment of Educational Progress. • Two twenty minute tests, break between. • Rotary partnering with FMS to help raise funds for a hard court surface for the 5th grade area. Raffle tickets, auction. • Harassment/Bullying Concerns at FMS. Topics for the Evening

Current Efforts • PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) - Provide expectations of behavior rather than constantly telling students what we don’t want without guidance of what we wish to see. • Safety Net- program between Police and FMS. -Police spoke to students during 5th/6th grade and 7th/8th grade assembly. Booklets have been provided to 5th and 6th grade students. Topics covered such as what to do if you are bullied (report to adult), actions that can be perceived as bullying.

Current Efforts (2) 3) Outline of Bullying and Harassment in Handbook - An outline is provided that identifies what constitutes bullying and the actions that the student should follow who feels they are being bullied. 4) Surveys on Bullying for students -We request the students of each grade level to take an anonymous survey regarding bullying twice a year (at the end of each semester). The students have/will be taking the 2010 Fall/Winter Survey over the next month. An overview of the feedback we have seen from these surveys follow:

  6. Current Efforts (3) • Curriculum efforts in Life Skills Class (6th, 7th and 8th) and Quest (6th grade). Students work with instructors on defining bullying, how to handle bullying situations and diffuse the event, development of posters put up around the building to bring attention to what behavior is and is not wanted.

  7. 4) Open Forum- what do you see as possible solutions? • Next parent meeting- Planned and handled by Admin • February 21st, 2011- Partnership with Rotary. • March 28th, 2011 Topics for the Evening cont.
