  4. High Attendance = High Achievement 2018 Attendance Facts: 73% of pupils who had over 95% attendance achieved five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C. Missing 17 days in one year (90%) can cause a drop of a full grade at GCSE.

Key Tips • Understand what assessment objectives are required in each part of the exam. • Read the set texts as much as possible so your understanding and recall of quotations improves. • Make sure you have a thorough understanding of the context “Of Mice and Men” and “An Inspector Calls” were written in. • ALWAYS STICK RIGIDLY TO THE TIMINGS SUGGESTED.

  18. History Year 10 • Unit 2 external exam –USA 1910-1929 Nation of Contrasts. (25%) • Controlled Assessment (20%) • Hitler’s Riser to Power and Nazi Germany

  19. Unit Two • Exam 6th June 2019. • Revision guides/Key cards • Tuesday Raise a Grade. • Half day RAG before the exam. • BBC Bitesize. • WJEC USA Nation of Contrasts textbook. • Edmodo.

  20. Key Tips • Key facts are essential. • Use key cards, mind maps and rewrite your notes. Test yourself. • Read, write, test, repeat. • Learn the essay question. It will vary but you can tweak your key facts to match the question. • Make sure that you know the technique for each question (A5 handout already in book) • Learn the timeline. Focus on what changed.

  21. C Coursework Assignments Part A- How did Hitler rise to power in Nazi Germany? 16 marks Explain and reach a judgement. Includes 4 analysed sources from the booklet. Reliability of evidence. Part B - Was life better in Nazi Germany? 24 marks A two sided debate style essay Discusses the two different interpretations - Contains 6 analysed sources from the booklet. Interpretations.

Coursework • Part A should have been completed in Year 9. • If not Monday, Tuesday and • WednesdayRaise a Grade after • June 6th essential until complete. • WJEC Textbook. • Internet resources. • Lessons - Part B will be taught after the USA exam. Completed in exam conditions at the beginning of July.

  23. Key Tips • Make sure that you submit your notes for feedback before the formal Controlled Assessment. These can be taken in and written up as an essay. • Make sure that you use the correct technique for the two different types of essay. Most marks are for evidence evaluation. • The source evaluation technique perfected for the Coursework will also be useful for the remaining exams to be taken in June 2020.

  25. Information Technology • Unit 1 – “Understanding ICT” covering the functional elements of ICT in a home and school context (20%) • Unit 2 – “Solving problems with ICT” covering obtaining and interpreting different types of information (30%)

  26. Unit One • Re-sit exam June 2020. • Revision guide - see Mr Russell. • Raise a Grade – Tuesdays in D11. • Past papers can be found on STA Student Shared or on the WJEC website

  27. Unit Two • Coursework module • This should be complete. • Raise a Grade – Wednesday to Friday in D11 if required. • This cannot be re-submitted so make sure it is your best!

  28. Key Tips • Understand what assessment objectives are required in each part of the exam. • Make sure your controlled assessment is at a high grade as it is worth the most. • Practice by working through past exam papers and comparing what you have written to the mark scheme.

Specification from first teaching Sept 2017 SUMMARY OF ASSESSMENT Unit 1: Religion and Philosophical Themes (first exam series – 2018) Written examination: 2 hours 50% of qualification 126 marks (6 marks for SPaG) Part A: All candidates must study the two specified core beliefs/teachings and the two specified practices of Catholic Christianity. Candidates studying Catholic Christianity must also study a further two specified beliefs/teachings and two specified practices from the Jewish perspective only. MONDAY MAY 13th

Life and Death Good and Evil Candidates studying Catholic Christianitymust also study the two philosophical themes from the Jewish perspective only. All candidates must also consider non-religious beliefs, such as those held by Humanists and Atheists (this will be explicitly assessed in the (d) questions in the Life and Death theme). • MONDAY MAY 13th

Encourage engagement with sources of wisdom and authority –THERE IS MORE EMPHASIS ON THIS NOW. • Check trigger words – ‘describe’, ‘explain how’, ‘explain why’ etc. • Do not write in lists - encourage writing in full sentences and paragraphs • Learn Key Concepts and other religion-specific language – THERE IS MORE EMPHASIS ON THIS NOW • The AO2 d. questions will be challenging evaluation questions.
