Health & Counseling Center (HCC) Overview • Mission statement: • We provide high quality, integrated health, counseling and wellness services to support our diverse student population in achieving their highest potential. • There are three service areas: • Health Services • Counseling Services • Wellness/Outreach Services • We offer one-stop service for students by qualified medical and counseling professionals.

HCC Overview (cont’d) • Location: • Lady Bird Johnson Hall, First Floor • Office Hours: • 8am to 6pm – Monday through Thursday • 8am to 5pm – Friday • Medical services hours 10-4 on most days • Contact information: • Health Services: (512) 448.8686 • After hours nursing advice line: (512) 892-7076 • Counseling Services: (512) 448.8538 • After hours mental health crises: (512) 448-8444

HCC Vital Statistics • Staffed by • Psychologists • Nurse practitioners • Registered nurses • Wellness/outreach coordinator • Medical assistant • Administrative support staff • Doctoral-level practicum students • Peer health educators • Confidentiality and HIPAA • Services are either low-cost or no-cost • Health Insurance

Counseling Services Offerings • Brief individual, couples, and group counseling • Crisis intervention • There is a psychologist on-call 24/7 for crisis consultation. • The on-call clinician can be reached by calling UPD at 448.8444. • Consultation with students, faculty, staff, and parents • Topics include how to help a friend, conflict resolution, working with distressed students, and mental health trends. • Psychiatric consultation or referral

  7. Health Services Offerings • Treatment of minor illnesses and injuries • Prescriptions and lab tests • Information and referrals • Routine immunizations • Annual well woman exams • Physical exams, including study abroad physicals

  11. Student Disability ServicesAssists Students with: • Medical disabilities, such as diabetes, asthma, and migraines • Learning disabilities, such as reading disorders, math disorders, and ADHD • Psychiatric disabilities, such as depression, anxiety, and Asperger’s Syndrome

  12. If You Qualify For Disability Services, SDS can Provide: • Extended time on tests • Quiet, alternate location to take exams • Negotiable course deadlines and attendance with instructor input • Books in alternate format
