  1. “Good classroom management is based on students’ understanding the behaviors expected of them.” -Edmund T. Emmer and Carolyn M. Evertson I will create an atmosphere where students have responsibilities-to help the class and to show respect and courtesy for the other students. When it goes wrong, we will talk it out and I will learn and share their reactions in an unthreatening way. Classroom Management There are many wonderful ideas on FL Teach of how we can manage difficult situations. It is a great resource. “You can only take care of what you know is happening. I started talking about French manners: la politesse francaise, serving others before yourself, students' used to stand as a maitre entered the room, eye opening stuff for our kids. …. You might want the guys to offer seats to the girls, over do it for a while to make a point. And stress, as I do to my 12-year old son: "a gentleman at all times" Try making it a classroom culture to have "kindness, courtesy and respect for all" make it a mantra…” -MmeLong “It may be worth it to set a class period or two aside to talk to the students about this issue. How you perceive the situation, what it does to the educational process and clearly state that this behavior is disrespectful to you and fellow students. Then I would have the students give a reaction in writing, anonymously, about how they feel about this. I would then share the comments, again, anonymously.” -Brigitte Storey “You may want to try a classroom management system where certain students take on leadership roles, such as being in charge of collecting homework, passing out papers, watching the clock to remind you there is only 5 minutes of class…. Whatever activities you do that you could have a student do. You can also create things, like one year I had a student who had to make sure we had spare paper & pencil in a little table, he would check it every day & restock as necessary. Also a leader who makes sure the other students are doing what they should. If the act up they lose the leadership role. They get 5 points a trimester and the position last 6 weeks & them someone else gets the position.” -YeVonneHolland-Arendt
