  3. Unit 2: Understanding the Media • 3 Controlled assignments – completed in class: 60% • 2 written assignments • 1 practical production

  4. Unit 2: Understanding the Media • Written assignments – Year 10: • Assignment 1 – Introduction to the Media • Print December 2011 • Analysis and design • Assignment 2 – Cross-Media Study • Advertising and Marketing March 2012 • Analysis and Design

  5. Unit 2: Understanding the Media • Practical Production, research and evaluation – • This work is completed in Year 11. The students will choose one of the following production tasks from Assignment Bank 3. These will be updated periodically by AQA. • Moving Image • Radio and Sound • New and Digital Media/Web-based Technology • Print • Advertising and Marketing • Promotion of Music

  6. Parental Support • All coursework now has to be completed in class as a controlled assessment. However, we will be grateful for your support. While each assignment is being completed, it is helpful for parents to encourage students to research the topic being covered. During the Practical Production, we are grateful for parents’ help in looking after the media equipment, ensuring students behave safely as, with your permission, they are allowed off-site to film during Year 11.

  8. An Overview - Exam • Media Studies GCSE – • 4812 Unit 1: Investigating the Media Written Paper – • 1 hour 30 minutes – 60 marks – 40% • External Assessment (exam), based on pre-released topic (TV Crime Drama) with guidance and stimulus

  9. An Overview - Coursework • Unit 2: Understanding the Media • 90 marks – 60% • Three assignments: Introductory assignment; cross-media assignment and research, practical production and evaluation.
