  2. NIH Eliminates Error/Correction Window For due dates of January 25, 2011 and beyond

  3. Viewing vs. Error/Correction Window View Window: • All proposals have a 2-day viewing window. • 2 days beginning the day after the assembled application image is posted in Commons. The PI can “view” an application just like a reviewer would before it moves to the next step of assignment to a study section. • An application can be rejected by the AOR during the viewing window. Error/Correction Window: • Implemented in 2005 as a temporary measure to facilitate the transition from paper to electronic submission of grant applications. • Applications with NIH errors or warnings have a 2-day error/correction window. • The error/correction window is the 2 days following the submission deadline for the PI to correct errors or warnings identified by NIH. • An application can be rejected by the AOR to make changes identified as errors or warnings by NIH.

  4. On Time Submission - January • Application must receive a Grants.gov tracking number and timestamp by 5:00pm local time on the submission deadline • Any system identified errors/warnings must be corrected and the submission process completed before the submission deadline of 5pm on the submission deadline • No changes may be made after the submission deadline without triggering the NIH late submission policy.

  5. Viewing Window Actions • Prior to submission deadline: • Can withdraw • Can re-submit to make any changes • After the submission deadline: • Can withdraw application • Can re-submit; but the application will be subject to the NIH late policy * * Late Policy: 2 weeks after the deadline with a reason found to be acceptable to NIH. See NOT-OD-08-027

  6. How Much Time Do I need? • Grants.gov can take up to 72 hours to review and validate applications. In reality, it takes from several minutes to several hours. • If an NIH error, NIH warning, or PI-identified mistake is discovered during the viewing window, there must be sufficient time to: • Make the changes to the application package • Submit the change/corrected application to OSPIP • Reject the original application at eRA Commons • Submit the change/corrected application to Grants.gov • Receive the Grants.gov review and validation • Have an error-free application at NIH
