Fidel Castro's starting point • Fidel Castro was a Cuban communist who had obtained power through military force and by gaining the trust of the people by overthrowing a corrupt dictator (new years day 1959) • After obtaining this power over the Cuban population he started shaping things into his own image he had suspended many civil rights and took more of a military control over Cuba • After this he had became allied with the Soviet Union and communist China • After showing his true intentions many of the Cubans whose trust he had built power off of had fled to the U.S. feeling as though he had betrayed them

President Kennedy and where he stood • He said he would not back down to the soviets he said the us would bear any burden and pay any price for freedom worldwide • He wanted to take the lead against the soviet union and to continue the US foreign policy of containing communism around the globe

  4. The bay of pigs • During his first week Kennedy went on with a plan known as the bay of pigs which was basically Kennedy sponsoring rebels in Cuba by giving them weapons from decades ago (wwii) • The plan ended in failure few none of the Cuban exiles had military training and the US backup never came

  5. Tactics • Spy planes secretly photographed sites for nuclear missiles being built in Cuba by the soviet union. • Kennedy decided to place a naval blockade over Cuba. • No one sure how Cuba resonponded
