  2. Background • Grew up in NC • Always around music • Parents were musicians • Troubled with piano lessons • No desire to read sheet music • Absorbed everything by “The Super Mix” • (Sat. night radio broadcasting from Ft Bragg Military base)

  3. Background Cont… • Listened to cassettes • Inspired by Grandmaster Flash and Furious 5 • Started writing rhymes, then grew from there.

His Work • Usually some sort of piece dealing with duration. • Time based media • Some interpretations of sound/music • Usually a time lapse • Referred to as motion paintings • “Like jazz, these works provide Ellis with an opportunity to combine ideas with collaborators or work solo within a form that promotes improvisation and spontaneity.”
