  1. Validation of EIAJ IMIC Models Raj Raghuram Applied Simulation Technology IBIS Summit Dec. 7, 1998

  2. Summary • What is IMIC and Introduction • Advantages of IMIC • Validation Procedure • Validation for MC74LCX245 • Validation for TI 16233.cbt • Conclusions

  3. Validation Procedure • Find driver with SPICE model • Convert the .model statement to and equivalent Table .model statement • Run the circuit with original model for different loads • Run the circuit with Table .model for different loads and compare with above

  4. Example 1: Motorola 74LCX245 • Low Voltage CMOS Octal Transceiver • 3 V supply used • Tristate non-inverting output • Pins are Oebar, T/R, A0-A7, and B0-B7 • Package model is just an inductance • 24 mA driving capability • Pulse with 1ns tr, 1ns delay, and 9ns width

  5. MC74LCX245 with 500 W-5 pF load to ground V(590) out Volts ns

  6. MC74LCX245 with 50 W load to ground V(590) Volts out ns

  7. MC74LCX245 with 50 W load to VCC out V(590) Volts ns

  8. MC74LCX245 with 500 W load at the end of a 50 W-1 ns Tline out V(590) Volts ns

  9. 16233.cbt with a 5 pf- 1 kW load at the end of 65 W-1 ns Tline IMIC model from ASPICE IMIC model from HSPICE Original BSIM1 model Volts ns

  10. How is the IMIC model made? • We use SPICE to do it. • 3D DC sweep printing capacitors and I at each step. • Ensure RD,RS, RSH =0 in doing the run • For Generic SPICE have to do a number of runs - a AC analysis at each step or operating point to get capacitances

  11. Conclusions • IMIC model viable SPICE-like alternative with proprietary information protection • Validation has been done for different loads with two different devices. Waveforms from the IMIC model and original SPICE model overlay quite well.
