  2. Location and Terrain of Wayne County • Wayne County is located on the West side of New York • Wayne County borders Lake Ontario • The county has a mountainous terrain because of the Pocono mountains • It borders the counties of Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, and Cayuga.

  3. Rivers and Watersheds in Wayne County • The rivers in my county are the Clyde River, the Seneca River, and the Oneida River • The watersheds in my county are the Clyde River Watershed, the Seneca River Watershed, and the Oneida River Watershed • This photo depicts the • Clyde River

  4. The Mountain Range in Wayne County • The mountain range in my county is called the Poconos Mountains. • The Poconos Mountains are about 360-415 million years old. • There are lots of resorts that are built in the mountain range.

  5. The Cayugas and the Senecas • The Cayuga and Seneca tribes were an Iroquoian speaking tribe that lived in the area of Wayne County. • They are Hotinoshonni (People of the Longhouse)

Habitats • The habitats are mountain ranges, farmlands, wetlands, lakes and rivers, state parks, and forests • The lake is called Sodus Bay • The state park is called Great Sodus Bay • The forest/marsh is called Lake Shore Marshes • The farmland is called Hippbrook Preserve • The wetlands is called Montezuma Wetlands

Industries • Even though there are many industries in my county, I think that the most important one is the transportation and warehousing • The transportation supplies people with cars, planes, and trains. The things who can ride are people, and cargo • The warehousing supplies people with space to put cargo and warehouse to store them in

  8. Water and Soil • Some problems that must be dealt with to protect the soil and water resources in my county are the drugs and chemicals. • There has also been nuclear waste from power plants destroying habitats and homes.

  9. Energy My region is healthier than the national mix because it has a large percentage of renewable and hydroelectric power

  10. Waste • There are many landfills and a lot of air pollution from incinerating garbage • Improvements that could be made: • Incinerate the landfills in an airtight place so the pollution is out of the air and then use the ashes to make fertilizer. • More waste to energy facilities

  11. Climate Smart Communities and Envirothon • A climate smart community is a community that meets the expectations to stand up to the environmental challenges that pose a threat to the county. There are no climate smart communities in my county. • All of these schools competed in Envirothon in my county. • Canaan Christian Academy • Delaware Valley • Wayne Highlands • Wallenpaupack • Western Wayne High School
