Americans on the European Front. Women in WWI. Women were allowed to serve in this war as nurses, drivers, etc. Convoy System. It allowed supplies to be sent oversea safely. Doughboys. Name for WWI infantry. Name came from the buttons that looked like dumplings on Civil War uniforms.

  2. Women in WWI • Women were allowed to serve in this war as nurses, drivers, etc.

  3. Convoy System • It allowed supplies to be sent oversea safely.

  4. Doughboys • Name for WWI infantry. • Name came from the buttons that looked like dumplings on Civil War uniforms.

  5. Russia Leaves the War • Lenin takes control of Russia. He had promised to make peace with Germany if he came to power. • As a result of peace with Germany, Germany becomes more powerful and almost takes Paris. • The U.S. steps in and incurred heavy losses and began to turn the tide of the war.

  6. Armistice • Cease fire. • November, 1918. • Germany wanted to negotiate terms, the Allies refused and Germany was forced to surrender.

  7. Death toll • 50,000 Americans died in battle. • 8 million Europeans.
