  2. Women in WWI • Women were allowed to serve in this war as nurses, drivers, etc.

  3. Convoy System • It allowed supplies to be sent oversea safely.

  4. Doughboys • Name for WWI infantry. • Name came from the buttons that looked like dumplings on Civil War uniforms.

  5. Russia Leaves the War • Lenin takes control of Russia. He had promised to make peace with Germany if he came to power. • As a result of peace with Germany, Germany becomes more powerful and almost takes Paris. • The U.S. steps in and incurred heavy losses and began to turn the tide of the war.

  6. Armistice • Cease fire. • November, 1918. • Germany wanted to negotiate terms, the Allies refused and Germany was forced to surrender.

  7. Death toll • 50,000 Americans died in battle. • 8 million Europeans.
