  1. Emma Jamen: Multi-sensory learning SLIDE1 Look familiar? Not another key-word SPELLING TEST! You need to try… Multi-sensory spelling!

  2. Emma Jamen: Multi-sensory learning SLIDE 2 Multi-sensory spelling/reading! The Orton–Gillingham Approach • Is a well-regarded multi-sensory approach to teaching pupils reading, writing • and spelling; • Helps students retain a tactile (touch) memory of letters and their sounds. • Can break down barriers to learning in some hard-to-engage pupils, such as anxiety of having to write conventionally with a pen; • Uses multiple senses, meaning that there is more probability of the pupil retaining the information to long-term memory; • Great for EAL, pupils learning another language, low-reading aged pupils, dyslexic pupils, anyone needing to practise spelling key words! • IT’S FUN! :-D For example, students might learn a word by seeing it, creating it kinaesthetically, and/or by sounding it out while writing it with their fingers in shaving cream!

  3. Emma Jamen: Multi-sensory learning SLIDE 3 When the alarm sounds, change station! Try the strategies to practise the spellings on each SPELLING STATION! How many spellings did you get correct in the spelling test, after using these strategies?
