  2. Back ground • Area – 38,816 sq. km • Population – 634,982 - 333,595 Males - 301,387 Females • Industry – Hydro electricity, Agriculture Products, Timbers,Handicrafts. • Religion – Buddhism, Hinduism

  3. The Royal University of Bhutan

  4. Background • The Royal University of Bhutan was established on 2 June 2003 • As an autonomous organization with its own Royal Charter signed by His Majesty and Statutes signed by the Prime Minister. • The University functions through the Vice Chancellor’s office under the policy directives from the University Council.

  5. University Aim • The University will enable validation of tertiary education awards, overall regulation and planning of tertiary education, and provide mechanisms for standard and quality assurance for tertiary programmes.

  6. Objectives • To develop and provide programmes of study at tertiary education level, of relevance and good quality which will fulfill the needs of the country for an educated and skilled population, and • To promote and conduct research, to contribute to the creation of knowledge in an international context and to promote the transfer of knowledge of relevance to Bhutan.

  8. Royal University of Bhutan Wide Area Network (RUB WAN) • Funded by DANIDA • Period of 3 years – (2006 -2008) • Connect all the University Member Colleges / Institutes

  9. Objective • To provide an ICT linkage between the various member institutes • To have reliable connectivity between the member institutes and with the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Royal University of Bhutan.

  10. Goal • To have most viable, fast and secure technology to achieve it. • To establish many services like Video Conference, e-learning , VoIP, etc. • To have redundant link to access the internet • Resource Sharing
