  3. HISTORY • The name Bhutan appears to derive from the ancient Indian term Bhutan which means the end of the land of the Bhots.

  4. NAME MEAN • Bhot was the Sanskrit term for Tibetans, thus Bhutan could mean the end of the land of Tibet. It could also extend from the Sanskrit word Bhutan or high land .

  5. PEOPLE • Bhutan is also a deeply religious country. Bhutanese people are driven by their respect for the tantric strain of Mahayana Buddhism. Bhutanese practice their beliefs as an integral part of their everyday lives--with none of the fears so often associated with religious practice in the Western world.

  6. GEOGRAFY • Altitudes in the south range from 1,000 to 4,500 feet. Altitudes in the more populated central regions range from 4,000 feet in the east around tashigang to a high of 17,000 feet over the highest pass. The altitude at Timphu, the capital, is 7,700 feet

  9. Currency of Bhutan • Ngltraum is used as a currency in Bhutan. A sub-currency is Chhertum. 100 Ch. is equal to 1 Nu. 1 Nu. is about 3.3 yen and fixed rate as Indian rupee.
