  5. Why preferences? • Based on ability, interests, personal qualities and learning styles • Chosen by teachers with input from parents/carers and students • Chosen to give students the best possible learning experience and success • The Yellow pathway

  6. The Timetable 2 GCSE Options 5 hours each covering the whole of Tuesday. 1 Vocational Option covering the whole of Thursday.

  7. CORE • Core curriculum Maths, English, ICT, Science, PE, PSHRE. • Everybody takes these subjects.

  8. The Preferences Process • What the school can offer.

  9. Restrictions • The minimum number of students for a course to run is 18. • The maximum in a GCSE group is 32 and in a vocational group is 24. • Certain subject areas have specific maximums – Engineering 12, Hospitality 16

  10. Guided Pathways • Based on ability, interests, personal qualities and learning styles • Chosen by teachers with input from parents/carers and students • Chosen to give students the best possible learning experience and success • Once chosen, not changed

  11. Pink Pathway FFT B data and teacher assessment indicates pupils are likely to achieve success through Level 2 GCSE/BTEC/OCR subjects. Pupils will study: • Two GCSEs or one GCSE and OCR National in ICT PLUS • A vocational subject (BTEC or OCR National)

  12. Yellow Pathway FFT B data and teacher assessment indicates pupils are likely to achieve success through Level 1 Study. Pupils will study: • A Level One Vocational course at Selby College • The ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (COPE).

  13. What To Do Next? • You have to assist your son/daughter to choose a first and second choice in section A. • You have to assist your son/daughter choose a first, second, third and fourth choice in section B.

  14. What Happens Then? • Spend January gathering information on option choices and careers. • Guide your son/daughter to take advice from adults and older students whose opinions you trust. • Completed forms need to be returned by 1st February.

  15. What happens then? • The preferences forms are analysed to see which courses are running and where these can be placed within the timetable. • Courses will then be populated with students using the preferences. • By the end of March, final decisions will have been made. • Students will then receive their curriculum choices to check.

  16. What should be considered? • What are your interests? • Where are your strengths? • How will my preferences influence my future? • Think about past performance. (Results from KS2)
