  1. ESTREMO/WXT Initiative: AAS-I Contribution

  2. ESTREMO/WXT: Preliminary Consideration • For preliminary ESTREMO feasibility evaluation the basic consideration are about: • Launch capability (mass, firing volume, firing height) of Vega for LEO • Payload Accommodation • Fast pointing • The more challenging engineeringaspect to be considered is the autonomous fast pointing (req. 60° in 3’ with a goal of 60° in 1’). The fast pointing desiderated dynamics • implies Moment of Inertia Minimization (as compact as possible configuration) • can imply utilization of special equipment (e.g. Control Moment Gyroscope) • For fast pointing the use of off-the-shelf standard equipments (Reaction Wheels) is recommended, mainly for cost, reliability and availability. • A very preliminary AAS-I trade-off considers a maximum of 5000 kgm2 as the threshold for the utilization of standard Reaction Wheels (RW). • In order to have confidence about the utilization of standard RWs preliminary MoI of a conceptual configuration of ESTREMO has been evaluated.

  3. ESTREMO/WXT: VEGA References Vega is an European four-stage launcher, tailored to carry the growing number of small scientific spacecraft and other lighter-weight payloads under development or planned worldwide. Vega's lift capability target to arrive at the ESTREMO orbit (700 km equatorial - circular) is 2200 kg.

  6. ESTREMO: Preliminary Mass Budget

  7. ESTREMO: Mass & MoI System Mass Budget System MoI Evaluation

  8. Final Summary With the available information a preliminary ESTREMO configuration appears compatible with: • Vega Launch capability • Payload Accommodation needs • Fast pointing with standard equipments
