  7. DISCIPLESHIP A disciple is a learner and a follower of Christ Jesus, our LORD & Teacher 2 fundamental issues in discipleship:- (1) WHOam I becoming? My BEING (2) Am I fulfilling God’s CALL & DESTINY for my life? My MINISTRY

  8. PROCESS of Discipleship OUTPUT - YOU - the Believer INPUT via 3 vehicles 1. Small Groups 2. Equipping Tracks 3. Mentoring Relationships Serving Edify Evangelize Equip Disciple Another

  9. (A) WHO am I becoming? Romans 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

  10. (A) WHO am I becoming? There must be TRANSFORMATION in the life of the disciple :- Reproducing himself Mature Fruitfulness Correct Self Image Depth Life Change Secured In The Lord Humble, Steady Overcomer A Fragrance Of Life To Others Identity & Significance Rooted in God’s Love Know his Position In Christ

  11. To be like Christ, we must embark on 3 basic themes in our journey (A) WHO am I becoming?

  12. (A) WHO am I becoming? Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after Me, he must : 1. denyhimself 2. take up his cross daily 3. followMe.

  13. (A) WHO am I becoming? 1. DENY himself WHY ? Because we are a MIXTURE a. There is the NATURAL LIFE - sinful nature - old man - corrupt - soulish - carnal flesh b. And there is the SPIRITUAL LIFE - the Christ Life - the Holy Spirit dwelling in us

  14. Our Self - Soul Life - Flesh - Carnal Nature our self-justification our low self-esteem our ways our opinions our deep emotion our cleverness our strong-minds our self-defense our self-love our insecurity our low self-image our human arguments our forceful will

  15. 1. DENY himself Means consciously and intentionally:- (a) not reacting and responding to:- - the sinful nature - old man - self-life (b) making choices and decisions according to the Christ-life in us.

Take up your CROSS DAILY • Our Cross vs the Cross of Christ • Our Cross are the CIRCUMSTANCES and the PEOPLE in our lives that cross our paths. • This is submitting to the dealings of God in our lives. • This is the discipline of the Holy Spirit. • This is submitting to the pruning of the Lord.

  17. 2. Take up your CROSS DAILY • This is dealing with inner life issues. • This is dealing with character. • This is dealing with personal baggage:- (i) unhealed hurts (ii) unmet needs (iii) unresolved issues

  18. 2. Take up your CROSS DAILY The Life of Christ is increased (manifested) to the extent I (self-life) is decreased. The day I fail to take up my cross is the day I :- Get Offended Fight Gossip Become fearful Lust Lose my temper Quarrel Get angry Feel stressed Be envious Fall into sin Get impatient

Take up your CROSS DAILY A Journey of a life of BROKENNESS Isaiah 57:15 For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

  20. 3. FOLLOWMe A journey of DEVOTION to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:3 Do not be deceived from the simplicity of your devotion to Christ

  21. ? HOW 3. FOLLOWMe A journey of DEVOTION to Christ. This means:- Devotion = Growing in ourLOVE FOR GOD. Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

  22. 3. FOLLOWMe A journey of DEVOTION to Christ. This means:- (i) OBEDIENCE John 14:21 Whoever has My commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves Me. He who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I too will love him and show Myself to him.

  23. 3. FOLLOWMe A journey of DEVOTION to Christ. This means:- (ii) Being a TRUE WORSHIPPER John 4:23 - 24 23But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.24God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

  24. 3. FOLLOWMe A journey of DEVOTION to Christ. This means:- (iii) Partaking the WORD OF SPIRIT & LIFE John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Romans 10:17 - Word of Faith So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 2 Keys To Grow in Faith 2 Corinthians 4:13 - Spirit of Faith And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak

  26. The Importance of Growing in Faith by regularly meditating the truths from the Word and confessing them.

  27. Appropriating the Grace of God by faith :- Believe and Confess : Speak - Pray Forth (i) I am very deeply loved by God. (ii) I am completely forgiven in Christ. (iii) I have right standing with God.I have the Righteousness of God in Christ.

  28. Appropriating the Grace of God by faith :- (iv) I am connected with God.I abide with Him. He hears my prayer, He sees and knows my coming in and going out, my rising up and lying down. (v) I am precious in His sight.He did not spare Jesus for me. He will freely give me all things in Christ.

  29. Appropriating the Grace of God by faith :- (vii) I live daily by the Grace of God.He daily provides all my needs. (viii) I enjoy Divine Favor. (ix) I am always protected in Christ. (x)I have Divine Wisdom in all matters.

  30. I must grow in the Grace and KNOWLEDGE of the Lord Jesus Christ - Grow in Faith. 2 Peter 3:18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

  31. I must grow in the Grace and KNOWLEDGE of the Lord Jesus Christ - Grow in Faith. Colossians 3:10 Put on the new self (Christ) which is being renewed inknowledge in the image of God

  32. 3. FOLLOWMe A journey of DEVOTION to Christ. This means:- (iv) Connected to God always by PRAYER 1 Thessalonians 5:17 pray without ceasing Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

  33. Know theInward Witness of the Holy Spirit Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God Romans 9:1 … my conscience … bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit …

  34. The Holy Spirit Himself will help us to :- • remember the Word of God. • recognize His Leading via His Promptings, Nudgings, Restraints, Counsel, Guidance, Comfort, Encouragement, Wisdom, Revelation….. choose a job; buy a flat/house; select school; decide a business deal; minister to someone; friendships; entertainment; serving; etc …

  35. Profile of Disciples of Christ Victory in the work place Obedient Greater Desire to worship God Growing in prayer-life Spiritually Fervent Growing in Word intake Victory over the evil one Victory over the self life Victory over sins

  36. Profile of Disciples of Christ Strong Families Strong Believers Filled with the Spirit Secured and Established in relationship with God Committed to Body Life Committed to local Church Love for brothers and sisters Alerted to reach out to oikos Rooted to the Word
