  1. Agenda 4/27 • Focus: Introduction to book clubs • Ms. Leclaire’s final takeaway from The Great Gatsby • Overview and sample book club syllabus • Setting up your club wikispaces: • Creating your reading calendar • Establishing expectations • HW: Complete the reading your group has assigned; whoever is in charge of the syllabus should complete the first one for Thursday. 

  2. Book Club Calendar • Look at the website calendar to see the days allocated to book clubs. • Figure out how to divide the reading so that you are finished with the reading by the last day of your book clubs. • Record each reading assignment in your student calendar; you can also make yourself a reading assignment bookmark if you think this will help. • Decide who will be in charge of the syllabus each day, and record this in your student calendar as well.

  3. Establishing Expectations for Your Book Club (Please type with a proper heading—one per club) • Outside of class • Work Ethic: How much time should we spend on reading each night? What do we need to do as we read? What is our division of labor (writing prompts, discussion questions, activities)? • Accountability: What happens of some members of our group drop the ball? Forget their book? Don’t show when they’re in charge of the syllabus? How do we prevent ugly situations? How do we enforce the expectations? • In class • Work Ethic: What are our expectations for discussion? How do we plan to spend class time? • Accountability: What happens if two of us (or all of us) starting losing our focus? What happens if the bell rings and we haven’t accomplished everything we were supposed to do?

  4. Agenda 4/28 • Focus: Looking ahead to the end of the semester and to next year • A little Q&A with the A.P. Language teachers • Overview of the documentary (your final exam) and time to begin working • HW: Follow the website calendar. 

  5. Agenda 4/29 • Focus: Setting you up for a successful junior year • Say hello to Mrs. Kirgan! • Time to work on schedules • HW: Follow the website calendar, and please have your proposal signed by this Friday. 

  6. Agenda 4/30 • Focus: Settling into your book clubs • Reminder about ALIS revisions • Purple forms—please have them signed • 10 minutes to touch base with your documentary group/work on proposal • Book club time! • Brainstorming how to use the wikispace • HW: Follow the website calendar. 

  7. Agenda 5/1: PLEASE PLUG IN ALL LAPTOPS TODAY. • Focus: Book Clubs, Day Two! • Collect signed purple forms • Overview of the wikispace and time to brainstorm • Book club meeting, day 2 • HW: Assigned book club reading and documentary work. 

  8. Agenda 5/4 • Focus: Book Clubs, Day 3! • Collect purple forms and ALIS revisions • Sharing your brilliant book club and wikispace ideas • Book club meeting #3 • HW: Assigned book club reading; remember that tomorrow is a documentary day. 

  9. Agenda 5/6 • Focus: Book clubs, day 4 • Day 4 of book clubs! • If you haven’t done so yet, please take some time at the end of class to make sure your book club wikispaces are publishing your work thoroughly and professionally. Be creative! • A.P. Letters • HW: Book clubs/documentary work.

  11. Announcements • All school copies of books (PW, Gatsby, book club book) need to be turned in by TUESDAY. • If you are taking A.P. Language, you to… • (1) Take a blue packet • (2) Sign the roster

Agenda 4/25 • Focus: Book clubs, day 2 • A few Modernpoems from yesterday (and a little time to finish if needed) • Book club time; please make sure that I have your syllabi and scripts from both Wednesday and today before the end of class • Distribute A.P. Letters • HW: Book club assignments
