  1. Welcome to Online Health Dana Brashear-Instructor 2011-2012 school year

  2. APEX • Apex- learning management system used for online health • Mastery system—You must complete one section to have access to the next. • Each assignment has a Unit #, lesson #, & assignment #. (Ex. 4.1.2, 1.1.1)

  3. Logging In • Students received a user name and password • Teachers can monitor the amount of time logged in, and spent on each unit. • Students should be logging in DAILY • Please stick with the calendar provided to finish the course on time.

  4. Announcements • Announcements should be the first place to look every time when logging on.

  5. Assignments for Points • Red Dots are listed on the left side of the tool screen. These assignments need to be submitted for points. Computerized quizzes and tests are recorded in my grade book.

  6. Pages Turn Like a Book • At the bottom of the page, notice the page numbers listed. There are interactive parts in each lesson. These will benefit you when studying for quizzes and tests Interactive lesson

  7. Proctored exam message • At the end of the unit, there is a computerized scored test (CST) and a teacher scored test (TST). The TST will stay “locked” until all written assignments have been submitted for the unit. You will receive a message stating that the test is proctored if it is still locked. If you have handed in all assignments, please email me to unlock the exam @ Dana.Brashear@fcps.org

  8. Quizzes on APEX • Each unit will have a number of quizzes to assess your learning. • Each quiz is computer scored, and the student must receive a 70% or greater to pass onto the next lesson. The computer gives the student 3 attempts to receive the 70%. • If the 70% is not obtained, the quiz has to be manually reset by the instructor.

  9. Submitting Assignments • Process to submit: **Email or the message center are two ways to submit written assignments **Please use the Discussion Board • Copy and Paste the assignment into either an email or a word attachment to the email sent to the instructor OR use the message center to submit assignments. **Once the questions are copied and pasted, please type in your answers through the email Students may want to keep a folder of submitted assignments as a back up.

  10. Copy and Paste • Click on the icon in the upper right hand corner • Copy and paste to email • Type in answers • Email to instructor • PLEASE REMEMBER: • Assignment number in subject

  11. Daily Work • ALL daily assignments must be submitted through email to the instructor for the TST exam for that specific unit to be unlocked. • NO STUDENT WILL PASS THE COURSE WITHOUT COMPLETING DAILY ASSIGNMENTS!!!!! • Assignments not received on the given due date will be “zeros” in the grade book until they are received. Full credit can be given after the due date of the assignment.

  12. Late Assignments • This is a self-paced class with suggested due dates on assignments. The due dates are given to help you organize your work and complete the course on time • Unit 4 TST is your midterm exam. After the midterm, assignments from units 1-4 will be considered late and points will be deducted at the teacher’s discression if received after the midterm.

  13. Proctored Exams • There are two proctored exams throughout the course. These are Units 4 & 9. Proctored means that someone needs to “watch” you take the exam with no aid from the computer system, books, or notes. • The media specialists (librarians) in your school will be the proctors for your exams.

  14. Procedure for Proctored Exams • 1. Complete all units leading up to the midterm or final exam • 2. Set up an appointment (w/media specialist) to take the exam. The appointment must be made 48 hrs. in advance from when you want to take the exam. • 3. Notify me through email of the exam time so I can give access to the test at that specific time. • 4. Ask the media specialist to email me when you complete the exam. (This time stamps when the test was taken)

  15. Reports Screen • This is one of the most important Functions in APEX. • No grades listed in Pinnacle—this is your grade sheet

  16. Reports screen Assignment #s Points received Zeros are assignments not submitted

  17. Technical Support • If you are having issues with APEX, please see the message at the bottom of your start screen: • For assistance, please email the Support Team at  support@apexlearning.com or call (800) 453-1454.
