  3. Did you come to the right presentation? … you might have thought that this was about Proteus Chaos theory is a field of study in mathematics, with applications in several disciplines including physics, engineering, economics, biology, and philosophy. Chaos theory studies the behavior of dynamical systems that are highly sensitive to initial conditions, an effect which is popularly referred to as the butterfly effect. Small differences in initial conditions (such as those due to rounding errors in numerical computation) yield widely diverging outcomes for such dynamical systems, rendering long-term prediction impossible in general.[1] This happens even though these systems are deterministic, meaning that their future behavior is fully determined by their initial conditions, with no random elements involved.[2] In other words, the deterministic nature of these systems does not make them predictable.[3][4] This behavior is known as deterministic chaos, or simply chaos.

  7. The “Stovepipe Reality” Your ocean of data as seen from a Project Team’s “interaction perspective”... 1 10 jobs 100 Docs 1000 pipes

  8. How to bypass the stovepipes? We have connected phone calls for over 100 years now, but we still have trouble connecting Project Data with a Project Member!?

  9. How to bypass the stovepipes? Workflow for setting up an “optimal interaction” with data Workspace The User Interface for interacting with data Each tool’s own UI is of course still available, and often very useful for some Team Members! 11. The four pillars of Proteus’ usability • Analysis • Visualization • Solution Framework • Integration …each can be used separately – but go well together…

  12. Why the name “Proteus”? Who was the mythological “Proteus”? Wikipedia says: ..From this feature of Proteus comes the adjective protean, with the general meaning of "versatile", "mutable", "capable of assuming many forms" One Software – Many Applications Slides to follow will show some of the faces (applications)…

  13. One Configuration = One “Workspace” A particular Workspace may only be available to Planners/Project managers Control who will see Workspace W1 in their list of workspaces. It may only allow Bob and John to update data, the rest can only view it. • W1 Proteus IS the User Interface Calendar tables Job Table Timesheet Actuals Activity table The Ocean of data in corporate cyberspace (databases)

  14. PipeTesting in Kashagan Some projects are more concerned with counting “things” than hours… MIPS Pipe-Test Data The Ocean of data in corporate cyberspace (databases)

  15. One “Workspace” = One Universe Generate Prospect Overview w. detail drilldown directly from Safran networks. Activity table

  16. One “Workspace” = Another Universe Drill down overview of all Safran Networks in organization – Site / Network / Discipline w. KPI + history Activity table Activity table Activity table Activity table CompiledCalendars The Ocean of data in corporate cyberspace (databases)

  17. Adding value to Promineo Cost …and also to Promineo MPP PC

  18. Seeing data in a new light… How active use of Perception Psychology can enrich data in various ways(!) ANY DATA The Ocean of data in corporate cyberspace (databases)

  19. What’s a does a good chess player see? How to know what is important, from the ”not so important”? …Modern technology can easily show you which «facts» should be given more attention than others… PROBLEM: …It takes years of playing to get enough experienceto see only the red moves… …In a way:Letting the machine set the colors for you gives you «Instant Experience»… …but in chess this would be cheating!

  20. What’s a does a good planner see? How to know what is important, from the ”not so important”? 55% behind schedule! Bad… 55% behind schedule! AND 2000Hours = DISHASTER 98% behind schedule! But 0 Hrs – NO PROBLEM! 98% behind schedule! Really Bad! Ahead of schedule Great!

  21. Let the eye SEE what is important! …and this is just ONE of many uses of perception psychology…

  24. Proteus as an Application Framework • Workspace + Database = ProteusWare Complete solution for tracking Work Environment (WE) data and to monitor compliancy + more… Custom Promineo Application Database (WEAC) WEAC Data The Ocean of data in corporate cyberspace (databases) Skip details

  25. …Solution for WEAC Overview:

  26. Visual WEAC hierarchy Tree structure and icons make good visual overview

  27. WE-data for various WE-factors + Chemicals Chronological tracking of changes through ALL phases, for ALL areas, through installation’s life cycle…

  28. Integrate documentation for each WEAC Integrates easily to most existing document systems

  29. Identify compliance - and gaps! Easily identify gaps and deviations from WEALs and “measurements”

  30. WEAC Report is a mouse click away Generated directly to pdf document with bookmark hyperlinks for each WEAC

  31. Complete WEAC documentation As well as Notes, relevant document references, chemical lists, etc

  32. Document any «findings» Full featured word processor. May serve as basis for generating Activity Reports

  33. Have the numbers show their «true colors» Translate numbers to color according to color map for any WE-Factor

  34. Plotplan can get color overlays Generate “Maps” for each WE-factor directly to PowerPoint or Excel

  35. Integrate with other data you may have… Can incorporate with 3D model and/or 360 degree panoramic pictures for each area… if such data exists. http://www.action-photo.no/

  36. Proteus as an Application Framework • ProteusWare “Performance View” is a cooperation with Metier to bring P6 compliance to Norway reporting standards. Resource History Data PrimaveraData The Ocean of data in corporate cyberspace (databases)

  37. What is ProteusWare? Rapid development of customizable commercial solutions… Not Commercial Client owned Commercial Promineo- or Partnerowned Workspace Workbook Workspace Data- base Proteus Excel

  38. Summary: So what is Proteus? Some one line descriptions if someone asks you… • A toolbox that may solve present and future(!) challenges relating to system boundries and local system limitations or shortcomings. • A framework that allows translating a concept or idea into a working solution in a very short time – One step beyond «Rapid Prototyping». • A tool that can make N systems appear to the user as One.

  39. Part II : What’s New in 2.0? • Transparent Reporting (!) • Other… (the blue are shown on next slides) • Active Directory integration. • Tooltips in histograms. • Support for custom Annotations (callouts and vertical lines) in histogram and Gantt. • Paging of histogram charts – multiple histograms can be generated, e.g one for each discipline • Allows defining calculated (formula based) rows in the histogram. • Support for Interactive Chart Control in a DataLayout. Allows drag-and-drop directly in the X-Y chart. • Find Panel – Allows filtering across all columns. • Support for custom coloring schemes for split bar histograms(E.g: Assign specific color to each project) • Support for adding a Pivot Chart in a DataLayout control. • Support for profiled spread – currently supporting Primavera or Safran formats. • Support for Primavera calendar format (Safran has always been supported). • Support for plugins. This allows for extending functionality in Proteus through your own .NET DLLs. • Customizable headers / footers in each report from wizard. • Support for generating periodic bars from DataSource with pre-periodized data containing cumulated values. • Support for Project Specific configuration settings – Supports a standard, but also supports deviations…
