  1. Twisted Racetrack Coil Design Update P. Fogarty, K. Freudenberg, D. Williamson January 27, 2005 February 2, 2005

  2. Outline • Design changes since FDR (Oct-04): • Terminal block, jumpers insulation • Ground insulation overlap • Chill plates • Clamp • ECP planned for drawing revisions

  3. Then Bypass cooling line Heated length Clamp attached at studs Chill plates and fringe

  4. Now Cooling lines top, side Clamp attached at tee only Leads extended Tube soldered to plate at asm

  5. Terminals, jumpers insulation • Additional mounting block added to provide more space for conductor termination • Jumpers insulated with 0.5-OD x 0.375-ID x 1.375-LG G11 bushing • Drawing revision for SE1406-048 (block), SE1406-010 (asm) 2-in

  6. Type-A Coil Terminal 2-in Base Flange A-A

  7. Type-B Coil Terminal

  8. Ground insulation overlap at side • Winding pack curvature results in overlap of strips, 2X side insulation thickness • Temperature increase vs baseline is ~5-deg, including MCWF • If overlap occurred at top, temperature increase would be less • Drawing revision for SE1406-090 (xsec) Top 2x insul Side Temp after 1st cooldown (15-min) Reference case As fabricated K. Freudenberg

  9. Chill plates • Four hundred parts, ~4 x 1.5 x 0.06-in, .125-in spacing • Models complete, flat patterns in progress with priority for WP Side-B Top • New drawings (SE1406-401 thru -408) supersede SE1406-061 thru -064 • Drawing SE1406-091 (xsec) to be revised Change to 0.040-in Extend wrap Gap = 0.25-in

  10. Chill plate nomenclature Cladding Side-B (side) Side-B (top) Side-A (top) Side-A (side)

  11. Side-B Top Asm Drawing

  12. Flat Pattern Layout

  13. Flat Pattern Layout Flat pattern Side-B View Extension #23

  14. Check of flat patterns Slots should bend Tube axis Tube axis Side-B top plate Adding on to developable part Side-B side plate ProE expansion method

  15. New production clamp concept The only difference in the bottom and side pusher assy’s is the length of the spherical seat P. Fogarty

  16. New production clamp concept P. Fogarty

  17. TRC modified clamps Side bars, 2 x 1.5 x 0.5-in 15/16-20 UNF thru hole Tack weld to existing bar (SE1405-254P)

  18. Clamp structural analysis • Started looking at contact element forces from coil non-linear analysis • Propose adding beam/solid clamp/bolt model to region of max displacement Pressure dist on contact surfaces 3-coil FEA model K. Freudenberg

  19. Action items ECN-4953 to cover all TRC part revisions thru end of next week. 70% SE1406-077 Connector Revise thread, end grip Done 1/28 SE1406-136 Upper lead block Add cuts for tube pass-thru 20 2/11 SE1406-137 “ “ “ SE1406-116 Side closure plate Add cuts for tube, leads chill plate “ SE1406-117 “ “ “ SE1406-121 Top closure plate Move attachment screws “
