  3. Components of Palau Career Guidance and Counseling • Grades 1-6 (career awareness) • Grades 7-8 (career orientation) • Grades 9-10 (career exploration) • Grades 11-12 (specialty)

  4. Integrated Career Guidance Curriculum • Develop integrated career guidance curriculum into the core subject areas (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Palauan Studies) for grades 1-12 • Develop instructional materials • Train teachers and counselors

  5. Implementation • Articulate student career pathways • Articulate with Palau Community College (dual enrollment) • Make informational resources available • Involve parent and community groups • Involve businesses • Train all stakeholders (parents, community, business, and more)

  6. Successes • Program was institutionalized • Increased involvement, commitment, support, and participation of stakeholders in children’s education • Students will stay longer, learn more, have higher goals, and succeed if they know why and how to plan their life

  7. Challenges • Continue strengthening stakeholder involvement, commitment, support, participation, and relationships • Insufficient number of school counselors • Dependence on untrained teachers to implement program activities

  8. Lessons Learned • Career guidance must be institutionalized • Evaluation must be a key component • Adequate resources must be allocated • Continuing professional development
