  1. How to be Fired orFIRIED UPwhich is for you? By Dr. Harold Williams Montgomery College Planetarium Coordinator and Physics Lab Coordinator Full time staff (SB) and Adjunct faculty

  2. Fired First • Stop coming to work (3 days can do it, if you don’t call in or are unconscious.) • Come to work, but don’t do your job, take a little longer, but this will do it, too. • Don’t keep up with your job as duties and the nature of work and technology change. This takes longest, but I have seen this work, too.

  3. More on Fired • Get in a shoving fight at work with fellow workers. • Threaten yourself or threaten others at work. • Lie on your time sheet • Piss off your supervisor and never apologize. Because you are after all a perfect human being, right?

  4. More subtitle ways to get fired • Keep everything to yourself and don’t have a support network among your fellow workers. • Never call your Steward if you are staff bargaining. • Never call your Staff Senator if you are not bargaining. • Don’t bother to know what Weingarten Rights are.

  5. Weingarten Rights • Rights are no good unless you know you got them. • You have the right to have a steward with you if you are being questioned about something that could lead to discipline. • What is discipline? Could lead to a reprimand that may or may not go into your personnel file or something more serious. • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weingarten_Rights • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NLRB_v._J._Weingarten%2C_Inc. • http://mesa.msfc.nasa.gov/weingarten.html from Marshall (Space Flight Center) Engineers and Scientists Association

  6. This really is a great place to work, but how do you make it work for you. • Your “professional development plan,” which you should write may be the most important document you write all year. • This can be used to keep you up to date in your current job or any job that you might do at the college in the future. • This is an educational institution and guess what; we do support education of our employees in many different ways.

  7. A meaningful and complete Professional Development Plan is one that • helps individuals expand the depth and breadth of knowledge and skills • supports the Department or Unit and College goals

  8. A meaningful and complete Professional Development Plan is one that • helps individuals expand the depth and breadth of knowledge and skills • supports the Department or Unit and College goals • Creating an Individual Professional Development Plan
