  2. THE REPORTED SPEECH • When the reporting verb is in the Simple Present, Present Perfect or Future Simple there are no changes in the reported speech. Direct Speech: I can explain.   5. THE REPORTED SPEECH • Reporting the Imperative. - The imperative changes into a to-infinitive. - It is introduced by verbs such as tell, order, ask, warn, advise, request.
