  4. History of Sierra Leone • 1460. First Portuguese navigators reached the region. • Sierra Leone- lion mountains. • Well known harbor for Europeans. • 1808- Freetown and entire peninsular became a British colony. • 1961. Entire country was declared independent. • 1971. Sierra Leone became a republic. • First president- Siaka Stevens. • Current president- Ahmad Tejan Kabbah • Sierra Leone history is very unclear.

  5. Sierra Leone`s economy • Sierra Leone is extremely poor. • Two-thirds of working people engaged with agriculture. • Manufacture for the domestic market. • Major source of hard currency -diamonds. • Internal warfare. • Aid from aboard.
