  2. What is dengue fever? Dengue Fever is an illness caused by infection with a virus transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.

  4. Do you know… • Only the femaleAedes mosquito feeds on blood. This is because they need the protein found in blood to produce eggs. Male mosquitoes feed only on plant nectar. • On average, a femaleAedes mosquito can lay about 300 eggs during her life span of 14 to 21 days.

  6. How Do Aedes Mosquitoes Transmit Disease... Mosquito bites and sucks blood containing the virus from an infected person. And passes the virus to healthy people when it bites them. Virus is carried in its body.

  7. Do you know… • Dengue Fever (DF) and Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) are the most common mosquito-borne viral diseases in the world. • It can be fatal.

  11. This is what you can do to help…

  12. Remove ALL sources of stagnant water. Deny the Aedes mosquito of any chance to breed. Prevent Aedes from Breeding!

  13. Change water in vases on alternate days.

  14. Remove water from flowerpot plates on alternate days.

  15. Turn over all pails and water storage containers.

  16. Unwanted items Do not litter. Rubbish such as cups and bottles can collect rain water and breed mosquitoes.

  17. Spread the dengue prevention message to others… Let your family, friends and neighbours know about the dangersof breeding Mosquitoes!!

  18. How to prevent Mosquito bites • Using Mosquito repellant lotions/sprays • Staying indoors two hours after sunrise and before sunset • Long sleeved shirts and full trousers • Use of net while sleeping

  19. Do’s & Don’ts for Patients • Adequate bed rest • Adequate fluid intake • Take Paracetamol (not more than 4g /day) • Tepid sponging in case of high fever • Sleep under mosquito net • Do not take Brufen/Ibuprufen, Aspirin • Antibiotics are not required
