  1. Current Events Together we are going to write a Current Events entry. First, we have to read the article

  2. Active Reading • What is it? • A reading strategy to help you gain personal meaning and understanding from a text. • Why do we do it? • There is little point in reading something if you don’t understand it! • What does it look like? • Making comments, defining words, asking questions, underlining/highlighting main ideas…

  3. Do the MLA format for your article: Journalist’s name Name of the article Name of newspaper Date of the article Page # At the top of your right side notebook page…. Skinner, Gwynne. “Changes can help Oregon save minors from sex trade.” The Oregonian. 22 Aug. 2010: B1+

  4. Tape, glue, staple the article you read on the left page of your notebook MLA heading Summary: Reaction: This is what your notebook should look like…

  5. Your SUMMARY Consider: What happened? Where did it happen? Who was involved? Oregon has a problem with sex trafficking of minors. Most of the victims are girls and suffer from rape as well as physical and psychological abuse. This is a human rights issue and Oregon is obligated to prevent human trafficking under the Trafficking Protocol. The article recommends 3 ways to do this; 1. Open a shelter for victims. 2. Require mandatory training for law enforcement on identifying and investigating trafficking cases, and 3. Amend Oregon’s trafficking law to ensure its use and effectiveness. Your 1st Paragraph…

  6. your REACTION your opinions why is this Significant? was the article written objectively or biased? I think it is sad that there are so many homeless youth and that they are forced or coerced into this lifestyle. It is shocking that this type of human rights abuse is happening not only in the United States, but right across the river in Portland and probably affects girls in Vancouver as well! I did not find any emotional or biased words in the article Your 2nd Paragraph
