  1. Dynamic Link Quality Measurements Rodrigo Garces Mobility Network Systems March 11, 2003 rodrigo.garces@mobilitynetworks.com Rodrigo Garces, Mobility Network Systems

  2. Propose to have a command for management purposes, that can be initiated by any authorized radio, allowing it to measure its receiving link quality using another radio as transmitter Rodrigo Garces, Mobility Network Systems

  3. Parameter of the Command • MAC_add = transmitters MAC address • Band = 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g • Pktsize = size of data packets in octets • Num_cycles = number of cycles • Start_Ch = starting channel (1,..,11) • Num_Ch = number of channels to test • Mod = modulation to be used • Rate = time in ms between packets • Tx_Power_L = transmit power level Rodrigo Garces, Mobility Network Systems

  4. Display Statistics • Packet Success Rate per channel • RSSI; mean, max, min Rodrigo Garces, Mobility Network Systems

  5. How does it work? • Radio 1 requests Radio 2 to send him packets with the specified characteristics • Radio 1 is in receiving mode and collects statistics • Radio 2 is in transmit mode and sends packets Rodrigo Garces, Mobility Network Systems

  6. Request Response Test Data Ch 1 Test Data Ch n Test Data Ch 1 Rodrigo Garces, Mobility Network Systems

  7. Can be useful • For deployments • For network management • Link Measurements for Handovers Rodrigo Garces, Mobility Network Systems
