  3. How did we start on this assessment process within our department? Prompted by a request from VP of Student Development, we were asked to look at our “environment of assessment” and how were we able to measure student success or student learning outcomes in our department… BUT WHY???

Taken from the Strategic Plan for Student Development Division… Goal 5: Assessment Continue to develop a culture of continuous improvement through the practice of comprehensive assessment ·         Strategy 3: The impact of the Division of Student Development on student learning outcomes will be systematically measured and assessed. o   Each department will assess at least one specific learning outcome annually. Metric: Outcome identified, assessment plan developed and implemented. Responsibility: Department Directors Timeline: Annual (results communicated in department’s annual report) o   Results of the learning outcomes assessments will be used to adapt, modify, and improve program and processes. Metric: An action plan for improving or changing processes will be developed and implemented. Responsibility: Directors Timeline: Annual

Our experience with assessment…What did we want to know? • …we wanted to understanding the ways in which student workers grow during their time with PCELC • …we wanted to know if students were able to articulate the skills they developed • …we wanted to know if the students demonstrated changes in their behaviorAND if the results of PCELC’s assessment methods provided us with indicators/results that they were meeting our stated student learning outcomes

  6. Where do we start?...HELLO!!!! WE NEED AN “SLO”!!!! PCELC Student Learning Outcome: • Students will be able to identify and demonstrate teaching strategies that enhance children’s play  in the classroom after participating in monthly workshops provided by this department and Saint John Fisher College Early Learning Center.

  15. INSTRUCTIONS for PCCCC Student Worker Performance ReviewPlease complete the following “Student Worker Performance Review Form” to help you prepare for your performance review. Please be self-reflective and focus your responses based on your experiences during the previous semesterand or current semester performance. Use the “comment” spaces provided for your own comments about your job and your performance. You may use additional pages if necessary. You will need to sign up for a “review meeting” which will take place the week of March 21st-25th. The sign-up sheet is on the Student Worker Bulletin Board in PCCCC. Upon completion, this form will be discussed in your review meeting, so please bring it with you to that meeting. If you have any questions regarding the completion of this form, please don’t hesitate to contact Mimi or Kate. Refer to the following ratings definitions to assist in self-evaluating your performance in each area: Exceeds Expectations: Performance is at the highest level. Student worker consistently demonstrates exceptional accomplishments in all areas of responsibility. The ability to communicate and interact with others is exemplary. Meets expectations: Performance consistently met expectations. The student worker’s performance is generally effective, reliable, and of good quality. Needs Improvement: Performance fails to meet goals, requiring more than normal assistance or supervision. Exhibits potential to meet expectations with coaching and establishment of development goals. Unacceptable: Does not meet job performance expectations. Has not demonstrated the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities and/or commitment. Has not kept pace with job requirements; successes may be occasional; or performance has been deteriorating. Immediate and sustained improvement is needed. A performance improvement plan is required.
