  3. The School Year The school year has 10 MONTHS. It starts in September and ends in June. Semester One Semester Two Term One Term Two Term Three Term Four Feb. Sept. Jun. Term 3 Report Term 1 Report Semester 1 End Report Semester 2 End Report

  4. Holidays? • In Canada our school system has holidays. These holidays are probably different than your country’s holidays. • Summer vacation is July and August. • Christmas vacation is 2 weeks in December. • Spring vacation is 1 week in March.

  7. Classes At John Barsby you Can… 1) Take 0,1, or 2 ESL classes EACH semester depending on your first day English test 2) Choose your other classes 3) Study to learn English OR study to Graduate so you can go to Canadian college/university Semester One Semester Two

A Usual Day... • Everyday you will have FOUR classes • Each class is 1 Hour and 20 Minutes A Usual day will look like this... 8:40-10:00 Class One (A) Monday ABCD 10:05-11:25 Class Two (B) Tuesday BADC 11:25-12:10 LUNCH Wednesday CDAB 12:15-1:35 Class Three (C) Thursday DCBA 1:40-3:00 Class Four (D) Friday ****

School Life/Activities • There are MANY school activities you can be a part of at John Barsby school, but there are also community activities which you can ask you homestay about • There are many sport teams: basketball, volleyball, football, and soccer (you will need to be experienced to play! Not Rec!) • There some clubs in the school as well: Choir, Band, Theatre • Plus there are social activities for international students each month! A list of these activities will be coming soon! • If you REALLY want to enjoy a Canadian life, it is good to TRY NEW THINGS and MEET NEW PEOPLE.

  11. Your School Goal... • Each of you have a different ACADEMIC GOAL. • Some of you want to GRADUATE and go to a University or College. We will give you good classes and help you get GOOD GRADES, which in Canada is the MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR TO GET INTO POST SECONDARY SCHOOLS • Some of you want to only learn some English and then go back to your country with better English skills. • At John Barsby we can give you THE BEST education because we will give you classes that will help YOU!
