Survivor Outreach Services • Our Fallen Warriors have paid the ultimate sacrifice • The Army has a commitment to their Families • Families deserve our respect, gratitude and the very best we can provide • The purpose of Survivor Outreach Services is to deliver on that commitment • By providing access to support, information and services • At the closest location to where the Survivor resides • When and for as long as they desire Mission Statement Build a unified program which embraces and reassures Survivors that they are continually linked to the Army Family for as long as they desire

Survivor Outreach Services Milestones • Jun 10 Assumed Survivor support responsibility for over 37,500 cases • Mar 11 Added SOS Support Coordinator tab inthe Defense Casualty Information • Processing System (DCIPS) casualty (CAO) report • Apr 11SOS Policy: Developed an SOS stand alone Army Regulation with ACSIM and all • components – At APD for publication • Jul 11 SOS early introduction to new Survivors initiated • Jul 11 Partnered with IMCOM PAO to create SOS Video and Gold Star awareness campaign to provide recognition to the gold star pin and flag with the Army and the nation • OngoingInvited to attend events and partnered with multiple NGOs in support of Survivors (since June 10) • Ongoing Exceptional relationship between Army components (since Jun 10)

Survivor Outreach Services Milestones • Developed a unique logo to “brand” the program (Sep 2010) • Created a vehicle decal to recognize Surviving Families and facilitate installation access for Survivors without a dependent ID card (Jan 2011) • Developed standardized marketing materials/logo used by all Army Components (Aug 2011) and updated annually • - Posters - Pamphlets - Brochures

Survivor Outreach Services Milestones Oct 11 Gold Star Education Campaign – Community awareness programs that promote recognition of military symbols of honor and sacrifice Feb 12 IMCOM Academy Survivor Outreach Services Course – 40 hour multi- component in-depth staff training with support from Casualty and Mortuary Affairs Mar 12 Initiated a change to Army Regulation 190-13, The Army Physical Security Program, to authorize Gold Star Family members unescorted access onto Army installations Apr 12 Initiated a change to Army Regulation 930-4, HQ Army Emergency Relief, adding Survivor Outreach Services staff to the casualty support section on identification of Survivors needing financial aid

Survivor Outreach Services Milestones Feb 13 OPORD signed directing garrisons to issue DA form 1602, Civilian Identification Cards, to qualifying Survivors to facilitate access across Army garrisons. Feb 13 Established SOS toll free number - 855-707-2769. OCONUS number has been requested. Please ask me about the SOS wrapped AAFES Trucks!

Survivor Outreach Services Web Technology • SOS Web Page • - WWW.SOS.ARMY.MIL • - Information on benefits and entitlements • - Educational materials and calendar of local events • - SOS in the news • - Webpage includes social networking, resource links and monitored feedback loop to respond to Survivor queries • SOS Staff Page on Army Knowledge Online (AKO) • - 440 staff users (includes management and direct service staff) • - Allows staff to obtain up-to-date information • - Shares best practices and lessons-learned • - Interactive Forum to allow staff to instantly discuss issues and ideas • - SOS news articles, SOS Operations Manual and Ceremony Photos • Social Media • - FaceBook (over 100,500 views this year) • - Twitter • - Flickr

Survivor Outreach Services CSA Survivor Advisor Working Group • Established with six members in 2007, by then Chief of Staff of the Army, GEN Casey • Continued by GEN Dempsey and expanded to 10 members by GEN Ordierno • Survivors Advisors (Spouses, parents and uniformed) meet regularly with senior Army leaders

Survivor Outreach Services Army Family Action Plan In total - 20 Survivor issues have been elevated to the DA AFAP 14 are complete, 4 unattainable and 2 remain active • 2012 HQDA AFAP Conferencetop two Survivor issues • -Installation Access Card for Gold Star Lapel Button Recipients (Completed March 2013) • - HEART Act SGLI Investment timeline extension (Active) • 2011 HQDA AFAP Conference top two Survivor issues • - Space-Available (Space A) Travel for Survivors Registered in the • Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) (Active) • - Identification (ID) Cards for Surviving Children with Active Duty Sponsor • (Completed Feb 2012)
