  2. Radiologic Medicine • Traditional x-rays • Ultrasounds • MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) • CT Scans • Angiography • Nuclear Medicine • Mammography

  3. What is PACS? • Picture Archiving and Communications System • Allows for digitizing of medical images that were previously printed on films. • Allows radiologists to read and interpret images from a computer monitor instead of film.

  4. We need a PACS! Why Switch to PACS? • Greater Accuracy • Greater Flexibility • Greater Efficiency • Increased Radiologist Productivity • Less Expensive Storage Space • Less radiology report turn-around time • IMPROVED PATIENT CARE!

  5. Risks to Consider with PACS • Possible physician resistance • System reliability. What happens if the system is down? • Large initial investments • Lack of adequate planning

  6. Major Players • GE Medical Systems – Centricity PACS • Siemens – SIENET PACS • Kodak Eastman – Kodak Direct View System 5 PACS • FUJIFILM – Synapse PACS

  7. Current Trends in Radiology • IMRT – Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy • Functional Atomic Mapping • Electronic Guidance – CT Scanning
