George Washington • Patriot • Congress created a new army called the Continental Army. They chose Washington to be in charge of the Continental Army. • They did this because he had fought in the French and Indian War, was brave, and was a skilled soldiers.
King George III • King of England during the Revolutionary War • Taxed the colonists to pay for the costs of the French& Indian War
Thomas Paine • Wrote a pamphlet called Common Sense • Wrote that King George treated the colonies unfairly.
John Adams • Argued strongly for independence • Signed the declaration of independence • Later became the 2nd president of the United States
Thomas Jefferson • Jefferson wrote the declaration of independence • It declared why the colonies needed to become independent from Britain
Samuel Adams • Leader of the Sons of Liberty where he organized protests against the Stamp Act • Helped set up the committee of correspondence
Crispus Attucks • An African American solider • One of the five men killed during the Boston Massacre
Benjamin Franklin • An inventor • A scientist • A colonial leader • Try to get France to help the colonies during the war.
Lord North • Prime Minister of Britain • Worked with Parliament to pass the tax on tea
Paul Revere • Patriots • Famous for his midnight ride where he warned the colonists that the British troops were coming to attack • Rode with William Dawes
