  1. Session 7A God’s Future Plans Doctrine 11

  2. We believe in the immortality of the soul; in the resurrection of the body; in the general judgment at the end of the world; in the eternal happiness of the righteous; and in the endless punishment of the wicked. Our Eleventh Doctrine

  3. Immortality of the soul • This means that we believe that the soul will never cease to exist. • Since man was created in the image and likeness of God, he was created for immortality or for an unending existence.

  4. Resurrection of the Body • This will occur in connection with the coming of our Lord Jesus. • Our “spiritual body” takes the place of the “natural body” and is united with its spirit. • Our spiritual body will be suited to life with God in heaven, even as our present physical body is suited to life here on earth.

  5. General Judgment at the End of the World • Acts 17:31 He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice. • Romans 14:10,12 “We will all stand before God’s judgment seat…each of us will give an account of himself to God.”

  6. Endless punishment of the Wicked • Hell is the place of final punishment for the wicked who die in their sins. • Even though heaven has been prepared for the righteous dead, hell has been prepared, not for the wicked dead, but for the devil and angels; and for those who choose to cast their life and their lot with them [Matthew 25:33,34,41] • It is a case, not of an angry God, but of people going to the eternity they have chosen.

  7. Eternal Happiness of the Righteous • We do believe in heaven. God told us about it in John 14:2,3: “In My Father’s house are many rooms;…I am going there to prepare a place for you…that you also may be where I am.” • There is much we do not know about heaven- 1 Corinthians 2:9 • We do know that God himself …will be with them.” Revelation 21:3 • And that Jesus will be there and we will worship Him forevermore Revelation 7:15; Revelation 22:3-5

  8. QUESTIONS • In what ways will Jesus’ second be different from His first coming to earth? • In what ways will the purpose of His second coming be different from that of the first coming? • What would you say is the difference between a man’s body and his soul? • Do sinners have an immortal soul? What is the important of this truth?

  9. SESSION 7B SALVATIONISM Soldier’s Covenant or Articles of War

  10. Summary of what the Soldier’s Covenant provides • It gives personal witness to salvation and a pledge to life-long faithfulness to God. • It gives express confidence in and a pledge to The Salvation Army. • It includes a brief summary of The Salvation Army doctrines.

  11. The Salvationist’s Commitmentto God “Therefore, I do here and now, and forever, renounce the world with its sinful pleasures, companionships, treasures, and objects, and declare my full determination boldly to show myself a soldier of Jesus Christ in all places and companies no matter what I may have to suffer, or lose, by so doing.”

  12. I do here and now declare that I will • Uphold the sanctity of marriage and family life • Be a faithful steward of time and gifts, my money and possessions • Abstain from alcoholic drink, tobacco, the non-medical use of addictive drugs, gambling, pornography, the occult and all else that could enslave the body or spirit.

  13. The Salvationist’s Commitmentto The Army “I do declare that I will always obey the lawful orders of my officers and that I will carry out to the utmost of my power all the orders and regulations of the Army; and further that I will be an example of faithfulness to its principles, advance to the utmost of my ability its operations, and never allow, where I can prevent it , any injury to its interest, or hindrance to its successes.”

  14. Remember to… • Read your Bible • Have daily devotion time • Have daily prayer time • Fellowship with other believers • Worship and participate at the Corps

  15. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:18 NIV
