Actions you can take Disconnect your downspouts Check for and fix leaks in walls, floors, windows and foundations Clear overflowing eaves troughs and downspouts Make sure your disconnected downspouts are draining properly Install flood-proofing devices, such as back-water valves, sump pumps, floor drains or caps, and check to ensure they’re working properly Consider soft-surface landscaping that allows storm water to soak into the ground
