  1. First experiments after HADES upgrade • HADES upgrade – activities of Rez group • beam tests P. Filip, A. Kugler, O. Svoboda, Y. Sobolev, P. Tlustý, V. Wagner NPI Řež group, Czech Republic for the HADES Collaboration CENAP board, September24, 2010

  2. List of Hades upgrade projects  RPC - Resistive Plate Chamber FINISHED  Time res. 50-80ps  Granularity needed for heavy systems (Au+Au) Forward WallFINISHED  range 0.2 – 7 degrees, reaction plane determination  DAQ-Upgrade (CPUs, Event Builder, VME crates, MUv2)  goal 20kHz for Au+Au LVL1 ONGOING  MDC Readout / Trigger FINISHED  RICH Readout / Trigger FINISHED TOF+FW Readout / TriggerFINISHED  LVL2 Compute Node ONGOING  Pion Hodoscopes ONGOING  Rebuilding of the 1st MDC layer, 6 chambers FINISHED In 2010: HADES ready for heavy system experiments

  3. Time Of Flight detector (NPI Řež contribution) TOF wall covers 850 >>450: • 6 * 64 scint. Installed • TOF=(tleft+tright)/2 • dt : 90 – 140 ps • dE/dx measurement • Tracking x=vg*(tleft-tright)+xright

  4. HADES ForwardHodscope 4

  5. Forward Hodoscope with 288 counters. 140 small (4x4 cm2); 64 middle (8x8 cm2); 84 large (16x16 cm2) Distance from target 7 m. 2.10 3.5o 7.17o 5

  6. TOF and FW DAQ system ADDON module (LED) TRB board (128 ch TDC)

  7. Upgrade of TOF and FW DAQ Already done • tests of new ADDON modules in comparison with old electronics • Installation of 768 channels for TOF • Installation of 288 channels for FW • Test of new setup – cosmics radiation and beam July 2010 – Ca+Au at 1.25 A GeV, U+Au at 0.9 A GeV September 2010 – Ni+Au at 1.25 A GeV To be done • Detailed analysis of the beam data

  8. Tests of the new setup July 2010 – Ca+Au at 1.25 A GeV, U+Au at 0.9 A GeV September 2010 – Ni+Au at 1.25 A GeV - all detectors in setup, including new detectors (RPC,FW,MDC1) • new FE and DAQ readout • new central trigger unit • full setup working • Sep.2010 : 25 hours of beam, 340 mil. events taken • readout rate 15kHz 8

  9. TOF data from Ni+Au beam test

  10. FW data from Ni+Au beam test

  11. Summary • motivation: improved dilepton spectroscopy by HADES heavy systems, high beam intensities • current status  full detector setup working including new detectors  new readout installed, working  high readout rate – 15kHz LVL1 trigger • plans • beam test in October – DAQ, central trigger system, Start detector • Experiment Au+Au at 1.25 A GeV

  12. EMC - Motivation - measurements of the respective pº and ηmeson two gamma decay yields together with the dielectron data for the knowledge of dielectron coctail and normalization at incident heavy ion energies 2-8 AGeV - better electron/pion suppression for large momenta (p>400 MeV/c) as compared to the present situation (at lower momenta the electron/hadron identification will be provided by the RICH and RPC)

  13. HADES & EMC Side View START ElectroMagnetic Calorimeter (EMC) will replace theHADES Pre-Shower detector (18º< Θ< 45º). EMC RPC The total area required for a HADES calorimeter amounts to about 8m2 !!

  14. Resolution vs. Energy Ee= 855 MeV resolution ~ k . 1/sqrt(E)
