First Step - RECRUIT • Crawl/ Walk/ Run • The Seven Sins of Recruiting • Expect Announcements to Get them • Go at it Alone • Recruit Life time people – not short term • Assume “No” means “Never” • Fall into the “BIC” trap • Be People driven, not Project driven • Give the position the wrong title

Third Step - Appoint • Available From the NFCYM ($7.00) • Develop a template for education and formation for youth ministry training programs and to write role descriptions, policies, or other procedures for parish youth ministries in a diocese • Determine the ministry staffing needs in the parish to recruit, develop and evaluate staff • Plan one’s professional development • Manage volunteers, which includes identifying needs, recruiting, orienting, training, and assessment.

Fourth Step – Train Them • There are many options for training, including: • Diocesan Certification Programs • Diocesan/regional training programs • Parish-level youth ministry training • On-line training and video training • Books and articles • On-the-job training for specific jobs • Group evaluation and feedback
