  1. Purpose of Scenario • The purpose of this scenario is to evaluate the student on the principles of: • Size up • Strategic Options • Tactical Decisions • Task Assignments

  2. Purpose of Scenario cont. • Using a command chart • Developing an incident action plan • Decision making process • Complete a risk – benefit analysis • Using a quick access preplan • Calculating needed fire flow • Calculating total water flow needed

  3. Evaluator Instructions • Each student shall have a #2 pencil for the practical skills examination. • Each student shall have a Command Chart, a Simulation Exercise Examination Worksheet and a Size Up/Action Plan worksheet. • Nothing else should be on the table. • The student is going to use either the career or volunteer established resources for the staffing component and apparatus available to complete the sizeup, implement a strategy and complete an action plan.

  4. Evaluator Instructions • Each student shall prepare to serve as the Incident Commander for a residential structure fire scenario. • Each student shall prepare to serve as the Incident Commander. • Each student will complete a sizeup of the fire problem on the form provided. • Each student will develop an action plan on the form provided. • Student will have 30 minutes after the completion of the picture scenario to complete the sizeup analysis, command chart and action plan. • Each student should have a command chart and action plan chart.

Evaluator Instructions • There are four pictures of each scenario. • The pictures show the four sides of the structure. • The picture will also show you where the fire and smoke is located. • Instructor turn off room lights as the program begins. • Each picture will be on the screen for 30 seconds. • Students may begin writing notes about what they see during each slide. • Don’t wait until the end to begin to write your observations.

  6. Scenario #1 You are the IC what are you going to do with this problem? Hydrant 1 – 1000’ / 800gpm Hydrant 2 – 1500’ / 600gpm Use the resources listed on your Strategy and tactics Worksheet Fire Building 150’

  7. Scenario #1 You are dispatched to a 3000sf, two story wood frame structure. It is 1:30 pm, call came in from a person driving by via cell phone. Weather conditions are as they are today.

  8. This slide is timed when 30 minutes has expired the next slide will appear with a sound to indicate the simulation is complete.

  9. You have completed this scenario, please put your pencils down, make sure your name is on the sheets you have completed and turn them into your evaluator.
