  1. Automation system OPAC TUTORIAL Submitted by Shontel Howell, Ann Wilkinson,

  2. Cataloging Opening the Cataloging Module After you log into your system locate the catalog tab and the catalog module will open in a new window.

  3. Setting up Material Types When adding titles to your catalog, you can choose what material type you are adding by clicking on the drop down boxes.

  4. Deleting Materials There are several steps to deleting an item from the catalog. On the main catalog page type in the title of the item you are looking for deletion. When the title appears, click on “details”, and this will take you to a new page with additional information on the item.

  5. 3. After you click on “details” the new screen will show additional information on the title. From here you will look for “see all…” This will show all copies that are in your catalog. We are going to delete the first copy with barcode T 5451 because it is in sad shape, beyond repairs. Notice the icons on the right side after the title. We will click on the trash can for deletion.

  6. 4. This is the last step in deleting an item. It will ask if you are sure you want to delete the item. You will also want to check the box to Track as weeded for your records. After you click yes, it will remove the item from your catalog but will keep a record for later when you create a weeded items list during an inventory.

  7. Adding Materials Adding materials can be done either manually or by importing titles. To add manually, click on the catalog tab and then choose the Add Title on the left. You will choose which type of materials you are adding. You can also create copies of a title from someone else who has already cataloged the item. This is called “Copy Cataloging”

  8. The next screen is an example of when you copy catalog an item. Simply choose the needed information and click save. This item should be added to your catalog and you can now print a barcode/spine label for your new item. Copy cataloging is a great time saver and you can see how others in your school system are cataloging similar items.

  9. Correcting MARC records We have one person in our county who does the cataloging for all MARC records. To make any needed changes, a media specialist must contact her and she will make the changes in the system.

  10. Authority file for subjects Tags are added onto the main authority subjects to help patrons in their search process. Destiny uses these tags to cross reference to help in a search. Our cataloging person in the county is responsible for updating or changing these files.
