What is ISO? • The International Organization for Standardization is an international standard-setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organizations • According to ISO, "ISO" is not an abbreviation. It is a word, derived from the Greek isos, meaning "equal", which is the root for the prefix "iso-" that occurs in a host of terms, such as "isometric" (of equal measure or dimensions) and "isonomy" (equality of laws, or of people before the law). • An ISO certification is not a license that permits an activity. It merely certifies that a management system, manufacturing process, service or documentation procedure has all the requirements for standardization and quality assurance.

  3. What is certification body? • Certification Bodies (CBs) are third party auditing firms that audit facilities against a specific international standard or code.

What is accreditation body? • Organizations that issue credentials or certify third parties against official standards are themselves formallyaccredited by accreditation bodieshence they are sometimes known as "accredited certification bodies". The accreditation process ensures that their certification practices are acceptable, typically meaning that they are competent to test and certify third parties, behave ethically and employ suitable quality assurance.

  5. What is IAF? • The International Accreditation Forum, Inc. (IAF) is the world association of Conformity Assessment Accreditation bodies and other bodies interested in conformity assessment in the fields of management systems, products, services, personnel and other similar programs of conformity assessment. Its primary function is to develop a single worldwide program of conformity assessment which reduces risk for business and its customers by assuring them that accredited certificates may be relied upon.
